  1. Unfortunately, Toyota are getting really good at giving you less while the others give you more for the same price point. They better beware because you can find many Toyotaphiles will flock to greener pasture. I've had Hilux's in the past for company vehicles and it still astounds me how much less you get compared to the equivalent models of Colorado, D-Max, Triton etc. It is shameful actually.
  2. G'day Big Mike and welcome to the forum. You're the second Big Mike we have here. Nice to have you on board. I wouldn't have clue personally about what weight of oil is required for your specific vehicle, but if you take a look in your user manual, there should be some info in there about what you need. I'm sure others will chime in with their recommendations and like myself, I read many different forums to see what others are using. You'd be amazed at the variations in information you get out there. I have a manual BMW E36 M3 and would you believe it, being a manual box, it doesn't use gear oil, but rather ATF oil. This one in fact was the one recommended for my Getrag gearbox. Ashley has mentioned the Penrite oils, but I don't know if they are available there to be honest. Maybe you can let us know. If you don't then I'd take a look at the Castrol range. I use their gear oil for the diff in my M3 and it's supreme stuff. Do they sell Penrite oils in Canada Ash ?
  3. Yes, The hydro is belt driven. There will be a pulley from the engine output shaft atop the blades and one on the hydro unit, and as the belt rotates, it creates the hydraulic pressure required to propel the back wheels. Genius ! My Honda mower has a flappy paddle set up on the top handle bar and all you do is push down and it propels itself forward. Being an all steel 21" deck it is a little on the heavy side if you had to push it yourself and so the hydro unit makes light work of it. All you have to do is follow and steer. I don't get exhaustion after a mowing session which is nice. I see my neighbors pushing their mowers sweating bullets and I think hell no.
  4. Yep, I agree totally. In the years preceding the internet it was all trial and error. Nowadays there isn't any excuse anymore as we are so spoilt with ready access to information, even a newbie can tackle it. I, like most, like to read other forum posts and you'll be amazed how much you never knew or thought you knew.
  5. Hahaha, It's the ultimate in creature comfort being able to ride instead of pushing the damn thing around. You can get an appropriately sized ride on even for a suburban yard, but it's still a bit overkill. You'd have me doing the whole street's nature strip just to stretch it's legs a bit 😄 That's actually an excellent idea, because all small engines require SAE30 oil anyway. I wouldn't stray from 30 weight though. I've been using the Penrite semi synthetic SAE 30 oil and am currently researching a higher ZDDP content oil, which is said to benefit small engines more so than a conventional SAE 30 oil. I've also read that diesel oil 5w-30 would also be an excellent choice too as diesel oil tends to have the highest ZDDP content. This is a must for me. I like to give it a thorough clean and going over just before winter storage, and just give it a blow through with compressed air every other time. I've applied a paint and plastic sealant throughout so it keeps better. 303 on the tyres is a must as tractor rubber can go hard and crack. Got it just in time too.

  7. I hear you mate. My Dad went and bought himself another ride on tractor without telling me and it had many issues. We needed something with a bit more grunt than the 17.5 Hp of the Deere tractor we have. It's a Husqvarna YTH2548XP and boy did it need work. It's in very good condition despite the lack of maintenance by the previous owner so I've spent the last 3 weeks bringing her back to where it should be and I'm still not finished. Gave it a good detail over the weekend though whilst waiting for parts to arrive too. Sorry, couldn't help myself. I even 303'd the tyres 🤣
  8. Kinda like the old adage. Measure twice, cut once. Good idea to analyze the job in hand and see what else can or should be done whilst your in there. There's nothing worse than having to do the same job twice. I've been there too and have since learned not to repeat that mistake.

  10. Hey Guys, you all know how much i love nice things, especially nice tools. i saw this item and it was just calling out to me lol. I had to have it. It arrived today and I was thrilled at how beautifully it was made. The photos never really do them justice. This baby is precisely calibrated to torque the oil filter housing to 25 Nm, so dummies like me can never over tighten theirs I think I've learned my lesson anyways, but still, a beautiful piece of manufacturing excellence this Klick Wrench tool is. Made in Canada too, with a certificate of calibration.
  11. That's great to know. So the parts themselves are marked as "Denso" despite the different packaging ? Is that what you mean Tommy ? Would be good to see what they look like actually, to see how the packaging differ. Why do they do this ?
  12. Probably, the quickest and simplest way to find out is to remove one of your wheels and put it in the well and see or just take measurements.
  13. Never heard of this group until I searched it out. It's otherwise known as Bursons. They got me out of a pickle once, just going off topic for a moment here, where I was desperate for some Corolla parts one weekday afternoon and NONE of the big three had anything I required, then I discovered a Bursons in my area that I never knew existed and they had ALL the parts in stock. Well done Bursons.
  14. This got me interested, so I went searching and for the life of me couldn't find anything. Absolutely nothing even close. Have you taken the time to review your owner's manual ? I'm sure there will be a reference to it in there. If and when you find what it is, could you let us know please ? I'd be really curious to see what this pertains to.
  15. I concur. If the major service hasn't been done yet, the list will be extensive and will include many engine, cooling system, fuel system, suspension, brake system, not to mention any electrical items. I'd look for something with a lot less kays unless you get this one in question for dirt cheap, I wouldn't touch it unless the original owner has looked after it and maintained it well. It just may be ok. Get it inspected thoroughly. It just may be the one to reach the magic million someday !
  16. Hi Tasha and welcome to the forum. Questions. Do you also have a sub tank in the Cruiser or is it just a singular tank ? Is it a Petrol or Diesel ?
  17. Hmmm, that's really interesting. My apologies for that. I assumed this would be the same across the board for global manufacturing. Your connection port does look like an OBDII port though so If an OBDII reader can plug into it and not read it, then what will ? I suspect it may have to be done at a dealer unless there is a software driven device for such a specific vehicle. I'll have a little more of a dig and see what I find. This has me intrigued now.
  18. Definitely have the fluid replaced and then while they're at it, have them flush the hydraulic fluid for the slave cylinder. That tends to get neglected along with brake fluid. I suspect the clutch isn't fully disengaging which can bind the shift fork and not be able to enable a smooth transition in to gear/s.
  19. Any OBDII device should work ok. It just may be a faulty device you have there. Are you able to borrow one from someone else ? They are pretty cheap anyway. I'd suggest you buy one and just keep it handy. You will use it from time to time.
  20. Where did you hear this ? The OBD protocol was standardized in 1996 and all cars manufactured then and the years following were all OBDII compliant. OBD 1 preceded 1996 obviously. Here's a little something I found https://obdstation.com/difference-obd1-obd2-scanners/
  21. I had a look and the closest I got was one for the 200 series Landcruiser. Your 150 series Prado isn't very far off this and so the measure can be comparably close. In this PDF it mentions the weight for the 200 series as being 51 KG. So that's a pretty close estimate of what you will expect for your Prado. Hope that helps Cheers
  22. Have the alternator checked. Looks like it's not outputting the correct charge to the battery.
