  1. I also did my battery replacement a few years ago ago and the couple of minutes it took had no effect on anything. Everything functioned as normal. Maybe there is a capacitance charge somewhere that is able to bridge the gap for a small period of time to "idiot proof" the system so it doesn't mean a visit to a dealer just to have a battery replaced. Can you imagine the outcry ??
  2. Interesting. So if your battery dies and the car sits for a prolonged period, this would also be a problem ?
  3. Hey mate, good to hear you got your servicing done. Makes you feel better knowing your car is in tip top shape. That MAF did look a bit on the dirty side. Was it idling funny ? Car looks great as always. Nice work keeping it looking good
  4. Did you buy it new Mat ? If not, how long have you owned it before this started to happen ? I have heard that by disconnecting the battery and leaving off for some time it can reset the ECU and may rid the car of any intermittent issues. Maybe worth a try before you take it in. I'm sure they can fix it, whatever it may be. I too would love the new Camry V6 and I have thought about the 8 speed as well. Too many gears I reckon. It will be constantly shifting up and back constantly no ?? I seriously don't know why they had to go from a six speed to an eight speed. Fix something that isn't broken. Very strange. I have a friend with that very car and I'll have to ask about the transmission if I remember to.
  5. That's a heck a long time without a service I must say. Looks like it's had a hard life if the fluid was black. Black is quite literally the fluid being over cooked from hard use and good for you doing the service. You may have just saved it from premature failure. It was probably the transition from old fluid to new which made it act up. Sometimes a transmission will work better with the old fluid in it because of the friction material deposited into the fluid which helps keep the clutches from slipping. But that case would be terminal anyway if it's got to that point. I'd give it 6 months or so and then do a pan drain to see how the fluid looks and also check the magnets for any deposits. You may have caught it in time.
  6. Hi Dominic, strange that you'd report such a thing because a simple fluid change shouldn't upset the transmission in the manner you described unless you haven't followed the procedure correctly. Glad though to hear that resetting the ECU has normalised it but I have to ask why this occurred in the first place. Did you have the vehicle up and levelled and did you follow the fluid adjustment procedure to the T ? A series of pan drains isn't really considered a 'flush' as such. If you followed my procedure, it would've taken you less time and you would've done a proper flush.
  7. Good to hear from you Ash and that you arrived safely mate. You gotta watch those Black Hilux's lol. They can be a bugger to spot sometimes. Lead foot action would've been good for the old 2GR-FE. Blow those cobwebs out good and proper too. All those regular oil changes and engine flush seems to be working out well. Enjoy your break and safe drive home. Take care mate
  8. Hey Gents, With the advent of Graphene based coatings, ceramics still and will have a place in the detailing world. The main reason for this post is to not only bring attention to like minded people about the benefits of ceramic coatings but to let you know about a deal that is currently on offer by one of the 4 product makers he recommends in the video. AvalonKing. Most ceramic coatings have a protection of around 2 years and require "toppings" to keep the coating active and work to its fullest potential. The AvalonKing Armour Sheild IX has a protection lifespan of up to 4 to 5 years and according to Pan himself, doesn't need any toppers. So I think that's a great testament to the product and I know Pan would never lie to his viewers. The claim comes straight from the manufacturer too. AvalonKing have their Armour Shield IX on a special offer if you use the promo code pan25 for your discount. Normally ceramic coatings sell for over $100 for one bottle but if you buy the Armour Shield IX and apply the U.S.$25 discount you get a pretty fantastic deal. If you buy one it you'll pay U.S. $6.99 shipping but two kits get you free worldwide shipping. I have already purchased two kits and look forward to treating mine and my Dad's Aurions. It can also be applied to all other exterior hard surfaces such as glass, headlights and plastic trim for full UV protection. Very easy to use as a DIY so don't be afraid to use it. Follow the instructions and you can't go wrong. It comes in a kit as follows 30ml Bottle Armor Shield IX Application Sponge Applicator Suedes x3 Professional Nitrile Gloves Microfiber Buffing Towel
  9. I'd flush with demineralised water instead of the garden hose. You'll always have residual tap water in there somewhere which isn't desirable. This is the contamination you want to avoid. You can get gallon drums of demineralised water very cheap for peace of mind.
  10. My way of thinking is that you have to get under there anyway to undo the sump plug so what's the difference if the filter is on the bottom. I don't think Toyota did it on purpose to spite us. It is what it is. Sometimes a great engine design requires the oil filter to be on the bottom.. Whisselblower makes a good point about the factory method. It would be a breeze if you had access to a lift right ? It's never bothered me to get under the car and I never as much as spill a drop when doing mine.
  11. Hello Roadster and welcome to the forum. You'll need to provide more info about your car. How many kays, service history etc. You say it shudders at 70kph, only at this speed or does it get worse with speed ? Aurions are built quite well, so what you describe could only be something tyre related. Have you inspected the condition of your tyres for uneven wear ? The balance could also be out. Have you had your suspension inspected ? Not knowing how the car has been treated and mileage its done, then it's too hard to diagnose with only a sentence to go by. Transmissions don't cause shuddering, everything around it is more likely. Cheers mate
  12. If the piece is removable (I'm not familiar with the layout of a 2001 Prado), then yes, remove it. The airbag isn't fixed to the soft furnishings but is mounted to the internal chassis. You will have no issue with the airbag otherwise. I had a similar issue, as I mentioned, with my old D-Max and I also had to remove the top cover of the dash to investigate a rattle. Once it's off, you see the airbag pod. If you have to remove the airbag to dig deeper, I'd recommend disconnecting the Battery first. You'll be fine. Good luck and I hope you get it sorted mate.
  13. This is something you'd need to do at a tyre shop to be honest. There is no other way of knowing until a certain combination is tried and tested. Choose a friendly tyre place, visit and ask them if they can do this for you. The only caveat would be that they'd expect you then to make a purchase of said tyres/wheels. Or, if you already have the wheels, take these to the shop and have them dummy fit the tyres that will suit your needs.
  14. Hey Ash, I was wondering where you got to mate. Haven't heard from you in a few days. It's nice to have the road all to yourself. Makes you feel like your the only one on the planet lol.. Until the Semi's arrive and the rest of the Yahoos. Looks like those never ending roadworks are still never ending eh ? I'm really over roadworks. I wonder if in my lifetime will I ever see any of these actually finish. Anyway, have a safe trip Ash. Enjoy your Aurion on the open road. Cheers mate
  15. It is possible there might be a hook up for the new cluster. Are you able to check off the donor vehicle ? If not, then take a look at your wiring harness and see if there is a plug that looks like it will fit. They are usually plug specific so you can't connect the wrong one. Let us know how you go. Pics would also be great to illustrate this so others can benefit. Cheers Mate
  16. Hi Dale, Welcome to the forum mate. The dreaded rattles and squeaks... I'm guessing it's the fake wood trim piece just above the glove compartment you want to remove ? If so, short answer would be yes, you can remove it without setting off the airbag. Not sure why you want to do this as I really doubt this would be a source of any rattles. Rattles are a real mongrel to deal with. I had a relatively new D-Max company car and it would develop a new rattle every few days and it drove me insane. I did eventually find most of them and it just goes to show how rubbish these cars can be put together. Cheap plastic pieces that vibrate, especially when that diesel engine hits that sweet spot, which awakens all the rattles. Arrghh !!. Thankfully that car is gone and now I have the last of the Colorado vehicles. It's much better, but has a few squeaks here and there. Hopefully be getting a latest Gen Hilux on the next round of updates now Holden is gone. Anyway, getting back to this issue. Where abouts are the rattles coming from ? They usually tend to be A-pillar squeaks, dash rattles with miscellaneous tubes and pipes under the dash vibrating against other things. You need to get under there with the car running, or have someone rev the engine to induce the vibrations and feel around with a strong torch. You may be surprised how many you find. Sometimes the ties that hold harness wires together can break or come away from their fixture points and cause rattles. I found a few on a friend's Kluger. Persevere my friend and I'm sure you'll find them. Let us know how you go. Cheers mate
  17. I'm pretty sure the 40 series Aurion has the seat airbags. There should be a tag sewn into the piping on the outer part of the upright section. Here's a snippet from the Official Toyota Press Release: Aurion's front seats employ Toyota's WIL (whiplash-injury lessening) design to reduce the chance of neck injury in a rear-end collision. Aurion has a dual stage front SRS airbag system, which measures the intensity of the collision and deploys the airbags accordingly. Front-seat side airbags and side curtain-shield airbags are also standard equipment. Here's the full Release: https://toyota.pressroom.com.au/press_kit_detail.asp?clientID=2&navSectionID=6&categoryID=1000&kitID=203#:~:text=The Aurion V6 range starts,Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution.
  18. Good point Matt. Probably worth checking with local Authorities as this may warrant a defect notice.
  19. Hi Liam, Welcome to the forum. The airbags cannot deploy if the seat is removed. I'd disconnect the battery before doing it to avoid any inadvertent issues anyway just to be safe. Nothing to worry about though. Regarding fitment of ASV30 Camry seats to a GSV40 Aurion, I would think not. Both cars have different architecture and if that website shows that the brackets start from say, 02 to 2011, then you'd know for sure. So I'm inclined to think early Camry brackets/seats are not compatible to the Aurion. Camry ASV40 seats should though. You may be able to adapt the Aurion seat bracket to the seat of your choice though or perhaps look for a pair of seats specifically for the 40 series. Hope this helps. Cheers mate
  20. I couldn't help myself.. I bought two more Nulon 6lt oil. Was $73.49, now $36.69. Why not eh ? Also got me some Penrite fuel stabiliser for several jerry cans of fuel I keep and the old motorcycles. Handy stuff to have to keep your fuel as fresh as possible. Also got me some handy 45lt storage bins they had on sale. 2 for $15.98. How can you argue with value like that. I got 6 for now and am planning to get some more as I am quite happy with the quality. Sturdy enough with lockable lid handles and they are quite square so you can utilise the space better. Certainly not of the calibre of the Taktix boxes, but are sufficient for kids toys or whatever loose items you have and just be able to store things neatly. Just the perfect solution for my crowded garage.
  21. Super Cheap are having a 50% off sale on the 6lt Nulon 5w-30 Fully Synthetic if any one needs some. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/nulon-nulon-full-synthetic-long-life-engine-oil-5w-30-6-litre/343508.html#q=Nulon%2B5w%2B-30&lang=en_AU&start=8 Or... If you prefer a 5lt you will pay more. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/nulon-nulon-full-synthetic-long-life-engine-oil-5w-30-5-litre/286594.html#q=Nulon%2B5w%2B-30&lang=en_AU&start=5
  22. You may have difficulty finding a "fitted" set specifically for animal protection but you can try the link I've posted and send an enquiry to the seller. They have Corolla as one of many models they cater for and it's probably worth a try with this seller than the rubbish that comes out of China. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Black-Car-Seat-Covers-Protectors-Universal-washable-Dog-Pet-full-set-front-rear/152062800587?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item2367a632cb:g:1okAAOSwL~hbR0eg&amdata=enc%3AAQAFAAACkBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%2Fn%2BzU5L90Z278x5ickkxGz2ccqatkEnoeekHqhLkTryDAF5GIKbdPgCXrPJ3hETYtN486oV2mATPH8XZFmQ6z6ApMOLel4BeYWcAdOsr2KAC097KLV6iuG0EryLwUkWdBAz5xLwTJT3GZwiWnua5JL6mj8LGGcE07NoncBETATfYntnp1rtUdt5DkI5GYfb0B%2FbzSg0Rw6AH4xThbivxwLVY%2F51F3LqlTSoi31skZcpRLL%2Fzo8%2FFgtbW4ldDIuksY%2FkTQDgQ0cRSOX989H%2FhsjyhKsA%2FJHszxvCV1YJw6YJPJDVDAI1i63mizBNqc3LWzwmfvymMq4B%2FbEARp8rdr7HtDqNGf4PDXQ8TXhwln7kJ4yQkqLcuCsiwd6CN8Ls5A86qa4e3EU05gxig9ZzkfEPr7csgalI2uqOrbxM6ZejpA8hxcrfpOObtYuFZ2iTi4wOt4pX17Ydd64M1uFA7qfvMKCK8fIPHKV5Rp2jRYo01wwAQ0tVmqtHiaHlIgwwgmerNYj1BPRSlRrvCkMfVGF2k6gB4MfBW4d5xbb7%2BNLDLhNsGuCSPM48JK3IE0DSaYWP1d5p3Rqu9%2Bs72nZh1i84WNOirV7pX4ijaScPN45C1aAcGonBoem4Z7Mf%2FNb8k%2BLwmH73bS%2BCTfUcz0IdLEuVoPtcg6mAo%2FwpZh0SJz2%2BdrVm0nbjektGiLoFz%2FzPsXvXiFYmOUkz5qCWlewWagysGtf5%2FoajZLo6m2%2BoiuMW7GAj2RTFGoTC%2Bh%2FTb4Z%2Feb7u7rs5S8QpN2wcR1hZ5nz7Cd5AzikgCc0yCsbu%2BY7BbHbtlxVClAA9%2Bfn4fv15H%2F%2FOEAEz%2FhR1kO6vQ77n|cksum%3A1520628005874770fd431531415f9141d519ca168b13|ampid%3APL_CLK|clp%3A2334524&frcectupt=true All the best Ize
