  1. Looks like a Limo now. Nice I'm going to have to look into getting my Aurion done as some stage. Wife has been nagging me about it for years 😜
  2. I did use this product some time back and found it to be too greasy and messy. It slings a bit too. Plus side is that it does tend to last but it's too messy for me unfortunately. The best way to use this product is you have to get the tyre as clean as possible, I mean get all that 'brown' gunk off because as you apply the stuff with the applicator, the applicator will eventually saturate itself with both product and contamination and as you start to push harder on the applicator to get the stuff on, you will see the brown/black greasy ooze drip off. You MUST use disposable gloves when handling this. Your hand will get dirty too. I think a more fluid product is better for ease of application. Longevity isn't a problem because in my mind, the longer a product lasts, the more dirt it will attract and will require more deep cleaning and then re application anyway. This is why I'm pretty happy with a humble product like SCA tyre shine. Does the job very well for me.
  3. John Cadogan explains it so simply. The hide of the marketers to claim we have a lifetime transmission. This should be called out for the fraud that it is. They have no idea how the car is going to be driven to make such a ridiculous claim. I'm glad I did mine despite it having had an easy life, but for those who have a heavy foot i would definitely recommend having your tranny serviced regularly, especially if you're towing. The additional transmission cooler is also a great idea, even for cars driven normally. The better you can reject the heat from the fluid the better its integrity and longevity.
  4. You brought back some memories. When I first purchased our Aurion. My wife had been so used to driving her little Corolla that she would always put the boot into the pedal to get it going and when she drove the Aurion, she started doing the same thing. I had to pull her up immediately telling her it's nothing like the Corolla and all you need is a gentle tap and away it goes. Took her some time to get used to it.
  5. Pretty archaic design. I wonder how many others are like this. I have heard it's a "lifetime" filter too. Perhaps this was always the motivation behind such a lazy design.
  6. NIce work Richard. I'll never know why some people over tighten small bolts to buggery like that. Glad to hear you got it sorted.
  7. Yep, Good Call. Did that years ago and I had a microsleep. Lucky my girlfriend at the time woke me up as I was veering onto the wrong side of the road. That was close. We stopped soon after and she took over. Drove from Sydney to Tweed Heads in one hit on our way to Surfers. I just did a therapeutic clean and tidy up of my garage. I feel better now
  8. Does this help ? https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t10716_ds677553 If it's not in the engine compartment, have a look around under the dash where it looks practical.
  9. Human intervention can always lead to unwanted issues unfortunately Matt. I would then suspect something has occurred as a result of this. I'd also look for any pinched wiring too. It's a pain, but it's what an auto elec guy have would do too. Have a good look around and inspect your wiring with a strong LED light
  10. No, not possible for it to NOT start. 10L is more than enough. That's not your problem. Your fuel system should have 40 or so PSI fuel pressure and even if you disconnect the fuel line and depressurise, it should re pressurise instantly when the pump gets power to it. Assuming you did everything correctly, I would say your new fuel pump could be faulty. Is it aftermarket or Genuine parts ? Have you checked the fuel pump fuse ? Did you disconnect the battery before doing the job ? Are you able to fault find ? Do you have a multi meter ? If so, see if you have 12 VDC on the pump power socket when you turn your ignition to pos II. You may need someone to man the key while you do this because the pump will prime for a few seconds then turn off. So if you get an initial 12v and it goes away then the pump should be ok. You can also eliminate the pressure regulator by putting the old one back in to see if this could also be faulty. There's nothing really complicated about a fuel system. if you followed the procedure properly it should fire up. I am kind of surprised you have to drop the fuel tank to do this too. Most modern cars have an access port under the rear seat or thereabouts to be able to do this. If your still not sure, put your original fuel pump and regulator back in and just swap the filter section only. If it starts up ok, then you know the pump is bad. Do the regulator first then the pump.
  11. Sounds to me like you may have a loose ground wire somewhere mate. HAve you had any work done to the rear of the vehicle recently ?? I don't have a Hilux anymore, but if you're able to trace out the cabling to the back end you may find a ground wire loose or off completely.
  12. Good you made it back safely and that you enjoyed your trip mate. I agree. With the addition of Rain-X or whatever coating is on it, the beads help to clear the windscreen as you drive. I never use my wipers at speeds above 70 km/hr. The wind and the beads do it for me lol..
  13. What ? No good ? Did you have one Big Pete ?
  14. It's kind of like having two cars. One has 800 HP and the other has 400HP. The 800HP car would be rubbish on the roads because you'd never be able to utilise all that horsepower, be all over the road, whereas the 400 HP car you could.
  15. Hi Peter, what difficulties are you facing ? Insurance is a minefield these days and you need to spend a fair bit of time researching the various options. Might even be an idea to try a broker who can find a tailored solution.
  16. That's an excellent question G. I haven't used any personally, but I doubt there would be a ceramic coating that can mimic carnauba wax the way nature intended. I have researched this a bit and found little. The chemistry of SI02 is totally different to that of carnauba and hence I would say no. Kamikaze claim to have such a product, but I'd take it with a grain of salt with the marketing hype. It's a very competitive industry and until you've tried several products (at great expense) you'll never really know. It can get expensive real quick. If it's that warm glow you're after, I'd put down a ceramic coat first and then top it with a sacrificial layer of your favourite carnauba wax. There are plenty to choose from, even ones that are SI02 infused. Fireball have come a long way, and they have amazing products. High end stuff. Here's a few links for you to ponder http://www.fireballaustralia.com.au/product-brazil-wax/ http://www.fireballaustralia.com.au/product-show-car-wax/ http://www.fireballaustralia.com.au/product-fusion-wax-tourbillon-kit/ https://detailcentral.com.au/angelwax-enigma-ceramic-wax/ https://detailcentral.com.au/kamikaze-ism-coat-2-0-30ml/
  17. I think so yes. Why spend all that money trying to chase miniscule gains ? The Aurion was never designed to be a performance car in the first place which is probably why there aren't too many modding them. If it were a rear wheel drive with better weight distribution I'm sure we'd see plenty then. Wouldn't you think so ? I can understand doing suspension for the extra safety factor, but engine performance isn't. I am more than happy with the way my car is, stock standard, and I really don't need to go down a mole hole chasing extra performance. What for ? It's got plenty of grunt to rival most V6 or even some V8 cars. Top Gear did a challenge some time ago debunking this very thing. Watch all 6 parts: Another thing is speed cameras, unmarked Police, dash cams everywhere, social media spies, crazy traffic are the reasons I don't need to hoon any more.
  18. Hi Ash, so are you saying you didn't notice much difference in fuel economy with 95 & 91 ? I personally hate cruise control. It's the most imperfect system, especially roads with many inclines. I don't mind it on the rarest occasion if I'm going straight for a long distance. Brings me to another point, those who hog the overtaking lane and insist of letting the cruise do the so called "overtaking" at exactly 100 km/hr whilst the conga line forms behind the selfish turds. This infuriates me. They see you right up on their tail, and instead of accelerating to move left as quickly as possible, they're just in their little world and make everyone wait until Royal Highness is good and ready. ARGGH ! Sometimes stock is best. Toyota engineers know what they're doing and most modifications are a waste of money to be honest. Just my view anyway.
  19. I think that poor bloke did get shafted because it is extremely unusual for a 2GR-FE engine to need a new timing chain after only 150k. It should never need the chain replaced to be honest. I am still gobsmacked. I would've loved an inspection before they did that to see for myself, because I don't believe it. Those gears would be fine even at that mileage. Just another attempt to gouge the poor, gullible soul. There are some real pieces of work out there !
  20. Are you talking about a key fob or a plain key ? Key fobs have a battery inside them. If you're able to pry it open you will be able to see what type of battery you need. Read your owners manual. There's a reference there about key batteries.
  21. That is an annoying rattle and unfortunately anything sunroof related is somewhat painful to deal with which is why I'd never have one. Sounds to like an inner skin doesn't have enough sealant or glue causing this sound. If you are not willing to disassemble the roof to investigate it, then I'd really suggest taking it to someone who knows their way around these. I seriously doubt it's going to be a quick fix. You will need to disassemble it and inspect all the components carefully. I'd begin with the roof liner first and go from there. From the video, it looks like a 40 series.
  22. I guess so. Maybe the occasional reset wouldn't be a bad thing. I must say, knock on wood, my Aurion has been flawless since day one of ownership. Not even the slightest hiccup, nothing. What a car !
