  1. I agree. It would have to be done anyway at some point so may as well do it right off the bat. Thanks I'd definitely leave the lower control arms in place. Too much work just to sikaflex them. If you were going to all that trouble you may as well replace them and sika them at the same time.
  2. I have that pesky 5LT to deal with though. Perhaps I'll wait until they have a decent sale on again and get a 1LT to make it a 6LT like the others.
  3. Looks like a good trade off then using the Sikaflex to bolster the bushing rather than have solid poly bushes. As you said, Poly bushed tend to transmit vibration more readily as opposed to the softer rubber. Sikaflex, still having that damping and solidifying effect seems to be best of both worlds. Good idea. I'm going to have a look into this because my bushings have tiny hairline crack developing in them too. Can't hurt to try I guess. If I have to replace the bushings then so be it. But I will definitely try the Sika trick.
  4. Looks like the detergents in the oil are going to work there Ash. There are lots of hidey holes in 2GR-FE where sludge accumulates and it takes ages for the oil to get in there and flush it out I suppose. For it to have that colour change after 500 kays is a good thing. Ol' sludgy isn't giving up without a fight
  5. Nice DIY preventative maintenance Ashley. Sikaflex is an excellent product, especially their polyurethane. It should last a very long time. You just need to make sure all surfaces are super clean for best possible adhesion.
  6. What a pretty sight ! My current oil stash Took advantage of SCA's latest offering. The Nulon's are for my car and the Penrite's are for my Dad's Aurion.
  7. Really ? I thought it would be done as a matter of urgency that it will eventually cause a problem. Have you called them about it ? I'd have a chat with your local dealership and hash it out. Tell them that it's unacceptable to have a ticking time bomb when it was the Company's mistake in the first place.
  8. It's probably been said before, but I still can't believe the engineers thought it would be a good idea to use rubber hoses to transport hot engine oil. I'm not an engineer and I can tell you that's not a good idea
  9. Yep, I agree, it's also a safety issue. Hot oil can catch on fire, then you'll have no car to enjoy.
  10. Supercheap Auto has a sale on right now for the 6 LT Penrite 5W-30 full Synthetic if anybody needs some. I got 2 more for my Dad's car. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/penrite-penrite-full-synthetic-engine-oil-5w-30-6-litre/348768.html
  11. After all these years, I'm still baffled how sticky dash syndrome ever happened in the first place. Someone wasn't paying attention in Chemistry class when they formulated the material for the "New" Aurion/Camry of that Era and it shouldn't have warranted a class action to get Toyota to recognise it stuffed up either.
  12. Hi Rick. I would tend to agree that you may have warped front rotors. While you're in there, I'd also inspect the lower control arm bushings including your steering tie rod ends for play. Let us know how you go.
  13. If that works for you, then there's nothing wrong with it. I'd probably do the same mate.
  14. Whoever thought that idea up was most definitely an accountant, because if the engineers got their way ALL the time, they'd opt for a chain every time. Metal is obviously better than rubber. It's a no brainer.
  15. I'll put money down Toyota will tell him to go jump. No offence to you Shane. Definitely hit them up, but I don't like the chances, not after this long. Too many variables against you.
  16. They're merely tinkering at the edges. It will be a long time before petrol is dead. Hybrids are too expensive as are electric while Hydrogen is virtually non existent, so I wouldn't worry so much mate. It will probably take another 50 years before we see electric cars in mainstream life and petrol cars will be assigned to Museums. Petrol will still be around but will probably be $10/LT. By this time we'll all be gone anyway lol.. The new Gens won't know any better.
  17. Don't despair my friend. Big oil will see that it's kept on the shelf for a while yet. They'll let them play in the playground for now, but that's as far as it will go I reckon. The Fat Cats are still busy getting fat.
  18. You're probably on the money there. I haven't confirmed myself, but it does make sense. I doubt you'll see anymore Camry's with a belt. Too antiquated for such new technology cars.
  19. It's that ridiculous "covid" tax idiots are using to justify overinflating the prices of cars. I wouldn't pay $6.5K for it, even if it had less kays. It's an 18 year old car. Tell him he's dreamin'..
  20. Hi, what model, year, colour, condition, kays, is your Camry ??
  21. i'm suspecting the oil glut is still continuing hence the many specials on in recent times. Petrol prices are fluctuating wildly though. I've seen petrol prices go from ~$1.55 down to ~$0.99 in a matter of weeks. Go figure. They've taken this weekly cycle scam to a new limit. What was that saying ? Give an inch, take a mile ? .. Anyway, I'm already bursting at the seams with oil, so I might wait till I get through a couple before restocking.
  22. It's still funny how things rings true. It was always the mantra of the day 20 and even 30 years ago, but It cannot be said more now, especially with the latest fancy technology. Good to see that Toyota swapped out the whining transmission with a brand new updated version. It would be difficult to know for sure how a transmission is going to behave until it gets some real world testing. So I'd take my hat off to the Guinea Pigs who buy 1st Gen cars and have to do a manufacturers R&D for them.
  23. Isn't it funny how it even comes down to oil viscosity in terms of engine reliability and functionality. Old school mechanics would scoff at this and to their detriment too. Remember when we used to put 20w-50 in practically everything ? Sheesh how times have changed ! But it is very important, as our friend in the video mentions, you must use the correct oil the engine was designed for otherwise you will have problems. It couldn't be said any more especially that highly strung 2.5LT 4 banger. I'd love to see how the 0W-16 flows out of the bottle 😄
