  1. Well, after going to Toyota to pick up my $120 spark plugs, I asked the guy there if he could get his tech to bring out the Intelligent Tester. While waiting for the technician to finish coding keys and remotes to a new Landcruiser*, we spoke about the TRD and FT-86 etc. He also said that they had a ZR6 come in not long before which was getting the Check Engine light together with the Check VSC System warning (he mentioned that these will pretty much always come an together because they are basically tied together), and no matter what they did, the error would always come back. He said that they are in the process of ordering a new transmission ECU for that. Mentioned that it's not a cheap one either. Anyways, when the tech was done with his work, we headed out to my car with the IT to see what error we were getting. After waiting a couple of minutes for the IT to do its job (I commented on that; he said there is quite a bit for it to read), it came back with some codes which seemed to have surprised the technician. Apparently there were 6 ABS/VSC related errors (he commented saying that he had only ever seen 2 at the most before and that was on that ZR6) but it shouldn't be anything to get worried about. I asked what type of things could have logged such a code and he said the list is quite big. He commented about saying how the sensors etc in this car are so sensitive to everything and that I shouldn't really worry, which I wasn't doing anyways. Such things as one wheel spinning at a different rate to what it should, even rolling back on a hill a little before accelerating can mess with it. He just told me that he cleared all the codes and that I should just drive it normally and if there is anything to worry about, the light would come on immediately after starting the engine, or once I reach about 60km/h. I think after all this, I'm going to buy an OBDII reader just so I can see this stuff myself in the future. I wouldn't mind the fancy Intelligent Tester, but I don't think that will ever happen. * I was talking to him about the key and remote coding. As we have found here, the remotes can be programmed with a sequence without needing the IT. I asked about the key, and he said that it can also be coded into the car without using the IT. I asked if he's be able to tell me the sequence, but unfortunately he could not tell me. its in 's' so probably. LOL. Hmmmm Well, at the time the error came up, I was driving casually. 5 minutes before that was a different story. Just the usual traffic weaving and roundabout speeding.
  2. Well I guess today was my lucky day. After doing about 20 minutes of driving, I was just casually driving along and hear a ding and then I see this: I've inspected what I could and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Luckily I have to head back to Toyota in a moment to pick up my spark plugs and intake gaskets so I'll see if they can read the code for me. I'd be curious to see what it is.
  3. There are many types of turbos you can get depending on what your goal is. It's not finding the turbo that is the issue.... it's trying to make it all fit. And well... there's the money issue too.
  4. With the price of the tires that you got quoted for, it makes me reconsider changing my wheels. Those rims look hotter the more I look at them. Can't wait to see them fitted. I know what you meant, but painting the rotors would sure be an interesting sight :P
  5. OMG! You're making me super happy in my pants.... and that just from looking one of them in the box.
  6. It sure does. That's not a problem for me as I can easily take that off and I'll just get a new gasket for it. My main concern is how much space there is going to be to access the rear bank of plugs after that.
  7. Well that was a bit of a shock. Called up to book my 90,000km service and asked for a quote firstly and was quoted about $650 and that was supplying my own oil and brake fluid. Time to find someone else it seems. Edit: I really can't be stuffed to part with my money even if it's going to end up costing $500 from somewhere else. I'm just going to get the required bits and do it myself. The car is practically out of warranty anyways. I'll just get the transmission fluid changed by them at a later date. I hope the rear bank of spark plugs can be removed/replaced easily.
  8. Looking good mate. I had a feeling you were from around Brisbane just from the photo of your Aurion. Hopefully see you at one of our meets.

    full licence

Yeah... I remember that day that blew the rest of your points. Thank you Vic Roads for not sorting out my points from Melbourne. I'm damn lucky for that one.
  10. +1 I barely ever need my mirrors in the first place. If I really need to see what's behind (ie. a cop etc), I use my side mirrors. These don't vibrate with the bass on my Aurion luckily.
  11. Depends on what I need to do. If I'm doing a wheel rotation (front to back, back to front), I will jack the car up and place one stand at the front side, and the other on the rear side. If I need space around the underside of the engine, I will jack up the front sides and place the stands on the front sides so just the front is off the ground. If I need to get in under the exhaust, I just do the opposite. I guess I will have to take photos later, but if I am using the boot jack, I just use the standard jack points, and if I use the hydraulic jack, I use points on the underbody that are thicker in support than other parts. I place the jack stand in a strong looking position along the side beams where the boot jack goes... just on the flat part. I'm not good with describing it. Just common sense and experience is what I use to figure things like this out.
  12. Looking great there Lee. I'm sure she would handle like she's on rails now. I like too how the rear adjusters can be mounted externally from the strut top.
  13. I'm sure if he is referring to top gear, then that statement would be correct. My 91 Camry rode on 3rd even on the highway until it warmed up to about 50% operating temperature or so, then it would shift into 4th. It was so the engine would warm up quicker. With that car as well, if you tried to drive while it was still cold (after about 1 minute of idling), it would even hold 2nd for a little bit of distance.
  14. Three Brisbane members in three consecutive days: A Happy Birthday to Andrew (andrew357). as well: A Happy 21st Birthday to Kenneth (well, um... Kenneth. ).

    Evo's 1zz

Sleeper? LOL. Don't think that's gonna happen. Loose the roof racks. Make do without it.
  16. Ouch. That sucks. No worries. I can't wait to get rid of them. It's just wasting space in my clean room.
  17. Welcome mate. Definitely lots of information to be found on these forums.
  18. No Guni.... a split boot is a type of CV boot that allows you to change it without taking anything off your car. The idea seems good in theory, but doesn't appear to work so great apparently.
  19. Great stuff Lee. Good to hear you are really satisfied. Hearing things like this really make me want to do something like that to my car. I must resist the urge.
  20. If connecting to the wire specified in my guide does not activate your reverse camera only when reverse is selected, then here are my next two suggestions. 1) Use a multimeter and test for any wires around the passenger side kick panel that are +12v when reverse is selected. Then you can tap into that one. 2) Extend the wires and connect directly to the reverse light itself. That will be guaranteed to work.
  21. What do you expect when traveling at that speed... a crystal clear reflection?
  22. About the closest problem I have heard on these forums would be the one Danos encountered. His was similar in a way but different: Transmisison Problem
  23. With my old Camry, I once had a set of bulbs with that anti-glare shield on it as well as ones without it. The difference between the two were marginal and the glare was still there. The placement of the bulb in its design makes a difference more than those anti-glare shield (ie. the envelope of the bub sitting further back/forward). This is part of how the bulb is made though and can't be modified yourself.

    Little Rants

OMG yes! I usually end up tailing them if they don't give a wave. I know I'm bad. On that topic, I also hate it when you are approaching a merge and people don't give way in an orderly fashion. For example, if you are merging onto the highway, people tend to let you in 1 for 1 if you get what I mean. When people don't do that, I tend to get annoyed.
  25. A hydraulic jack and two jack stands. Just jack the front, rear, either side up with the jack then put the stands in. Prior to that, I was lifting the car with the jack in the boot then putting the stands on, but as this got more and more annoying, I eventually picked up a hydraulic jack.
