  1. Messing with the wheels in changing the rim size and tyre profile will mess with the speedo reading. It'll inaccurately point somewhere where in fact you might be actually going slower / faster hence safety and obvious financial problems, like speeding.. Not only that, if you mess with your rolling diameter to the point that it is a fair bit of a change (3% is usually the maximum change recommended), if this is in the negative direction (smaller) then that means that for a given speed, your wheels will be rotating faster. Your brakes will then be working harder as a result.

Good luck finding a store that has the oil filter wrench in stock. It is usually a special order item for most stores because the design is not really as common for them. If you are planning on getting it from Toyota, don't get your hopes up because depending on who you deal with, they probably won't sell it. Just follow my previous recommendations: Avalon Oil Change (PDF) A mob named 'T&E Tools' makes such oil filter wrenches. You can order them from most auto stores like Repco and the likes.
  3. This one is self explanatory as to the LOL's:
  4. The 2ZZ's are a completely different engine. For them to get good gains is not something that I would find hard to imagine. The 2ZR on the other hand, I have doubts of good gains. But like I said, you will need dyno proof.
  5. I'd be up for it. Haven't had a good night out and getting smashed in quite a while.
  6. This. Good on ya for going ahead and planning to get one, but just don't make posts about saying how good it is until you have the dyno charts to show it.
  7. Sounds like rust converter to me. Not really something I would suggest to use for your callipers though.
  8. Damn. I'm quite tempted as well. If I get a set, shall I throw in an extra pair for you?
  9. Well he does have a ride thread... don't know why he isn't using it though. Second request fulfilled though: http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24303
  10. Here's the exact same question asked on the Aurion board. Same answers apply to you: Got my new Aurion... Just curious about a few things 1) These controls are not illuminated. The door lock one could do with illumination, but at the end of the day, it's not something critical. Over time, you will remember where it is, and the feel of the raised side of it helps. As for the mirror controls, it's not something adjusted often, so I agree with the decision to not have it illuminated.
  11. Kool. Legend. If you PM me your bank details, I will start the online transfer.
  12. They are DataDots. I'm not expecting much out of it. It says it can last up to 6 or so washes, but ultimately, it just means that in the end it is going to loose effectiveness. It's not a wax as well BTW. It's a NanoCoating similar to that stuff you apply to shower screens like "NanoKote" etc. I can only dream of getting a permanent solution though. Maybe I need easy to clean wheels Yeah, I've tried it that way but it's just not the same. It's just more satisfying getting them shiny the proper way. I am not looking forward to it at all.

Toyota own that one. It was their design concept. Changes were obviously made for the production model.
  14. That thread and the one's below it (I'll fess up to moving the one "Spotted: Green Avalon on Bell Street, Preston" into there when I was cleaning the Aurion board) cannot be deleted personally by myself. I think only a Super Moderator or Admin has the rights to modify posts there. If I could, those three threads would be gone from there by now.
  15. Thanks mate for taking the effort to do that. After getting numerous repeat posts on tires, I was thinking of making one like the wheel thread above (but more aimed at tire brands), but my patience has really been tested lately. So once again thank you. I have modified my sticky Wheel thread to include a link to this tread to hopefully put people on the right track.
  16. ^ Those wheels look teh sex. I really hope you get them. As for me, did nothing but drove it from home into the city and parked it in the carpark here at the hotel.
  17. Because he is trying to get those (hopefully by the last bid) cheap 18 inch 'anz' wheels on eBay. Tires in 235/40R18 are more common and therefore cheaper than tires in the size of 235/45R18. Personally, if you are going to do something, do it right instead of trying to just save yourself some money at the expense of your own safety etc.
  18. I'll be there tomorrow. Luckily this overnight onsite tech thing here at Marriott was scheduled for today otherwise I wouldn't have been able to make it. Anyways, my car will always get a clean before the meet unless it is raining an hour or so before hand.. but I won't be going to Hoppy's. Those bites still itch even after a couple of days.
  19. Hey Vick, you said you had a few sets of those eyelids. Does that mean that you have another pair after Lee gets his? If so... consider it sold.
  20. I totally forgot what the old way looked. Where here's a blast from the past for you:
  21. Call it what they want, the gearbox is still a true automatic gearbox built to run like one. I personally wouldn't say it's intended to be driven manually. They can just call it Sequential shift because the shifting action basically is the same motion as a true sequential, but at the end of the day, it doesn't define the nature of the gearbox.
  22. Well, if you tinker with your TB you can... but there is a reason why there is epoxy in place to prevent adjustment I was suspecting an ECU reset as well, but usually after a couple of starts, even without proper idle learning, it's pretty good at picking up the right idle revs. It could have been reset then idled at a higher rev so that it would 'learn' that, but it should adjust as it is driven more and more.
  23. Unless your old plugs were really fouled, then I can bet that the 'more power' that you could feel is more than likely something called the placebo effect.
  24. Mine is 'set' exactly the same as it left the factory. Idle at operating temperature in neutral of about 600-650RPM with in gear idle maybe even a touch higher than that. Absolutely no problems with it whatsoever and no intentions to try and adjust it either. For reference, the service specification for the 2GR-FE idle speed in neutral is 600-700RPM. And out of curiosity, what did your technician do to increase the idle revs? The 2GR is set to automatically control it's idle within original specification with no intention for adjustment. The Idle Control System (ICS) component of the Electronic Throttle Control System (ETCS) actually monitors the idle RPM to ensure that it is within specification and if it is too far out of specification, you will end up with a MIL/CEL.
  25. Have you not payed attention? As for the additional tire size question, had you have plugged the figures into a tire size calculator, you would have found that they are smaller in diameter than stock so scrubbing won't be a problem. The tire size calculator will however tell you that there is a potential problem.
