Why don't you try stick in pod filter onto B18c or B16 engines on Hondas? If you did, you may agree to what his mechanic had said. Altough hi end brand such as Mugen or Injen does show increase of gain, but not all cold air system work well on those two honda engines.

His mechanic is wrong in term of 2zz-ge, but he is not completely wrong also because what he said can count on certain cars.

It's obvious that his mechanic do not understand the 2ZZ, but it doesn't always meant he doesn't understand other engines you see.

yeah its cool i totally understand what your saying :)

but a good mechanic would admit to not knowing alot about certain motors he shoudlnt just throw in an opinion of he doesnt know about it

so if he does that all too often then he isnt a good mechanic is he

sure he can say hey it doesnt work on a honda from personal experience BUT like i said not all too familiar with the 2ZZ

thats what he should of said

Hi Spec_black,

Without knowing what exactly the setup the mechanic will get for u i will say he is spot on the money..... I have priced this myself and to get the car running reliably.... have no issues.... and still be strong and hold its own u will not get much change out of 20K..... on the other hand you could do the dodgy job and get a setup for about 5K but id really like to see how long the engine lasts..... dont forget the 2ZZ is a highly strung engine as it is and adding FI just complicates the engine even more .... also the s/c from TTE is like 11K so his quote of 20K isnt far off..... But like i said this depends on whether he is doing right by u or not as he could be pricing u 20K for the dodgy 5K job ........

thanks for the advice guys.

hopefully next time ill find a mechanic that knows more about the 2zze engine

coz this fool is a lost case

I know exactly who to look for when it comes to 2ZZ-GE and 1ZZ-FE.

Meridian Motorsports in Vic is THE place to go to if you want to seriously mod your 2ZZ, Toby really knows his stuff.

That's who :)

After I pay a visit there, if I decide to do serious work on my car, 1ZZ or 2ZZ, no other place interest me but Meridian Motorsport. They are the specialist.

You want to tell Meridien Motorsport to make you a cold air intake is it? It won't be cheap. Buy one from Rollamods, didn't he said he can make one for cheaper price? Or buy one from Ebay for no brand intake if you're on tight budget.

im not in a hurry for the intake

budget isnt really a problem but i dont want to bring my savings account down below

my "dont spend too much" line

but i just want to see whats around vic

get different quotes and what kind of products this state has to offer

a cai is a must purchase product for me. just want to see if theres much of a difference in performance and price between branded and non branded products

Either way if you think just a CAI can give you 15 kw, youre dreaming. Get what you can afford because what you can afford is always the right price :)

has anyone ever dyno with a cai and has notice the power gain?

i just went to a mechanic today and he said a cai will do nothing as the sportivo is already sucking in cold air and once da air runs through the tube and into the engine it's heating up anyway

After putting the CES system on my car and getting a gain of 9KW atw, i later put a TRD CAI on with an ITG filter and picked up another 10 kw ATW. got the sheets to prove it. :D

will organise ASAP ;)

A before CAI and after CAI dyno is best to see gains, so Dylan's should be pretty accurate.

But from what i know, most Stivo's have pulled over 120kw atw with TRD CAI and exhaust system of some sort on the same Dynonamics Dyno in shootout mode. If its anything to rave about i pulled 114.1kw atw with a TRD CAI and i don't think a CAI gives much more straight line speed, car definitely feels different and sounds heaps better but straight line is almost negligible. With an exhaust system i don't know, maybe the brissy boys have benchmarked down the strip or on the street and share some light on this.

Now after Dylan's time it does make you wonder whether the CAI does give you some bang.. i mean maybe up top like in 3rd and 4th gear you will see a CAI equipped Stivo pull away slightly from a non-CAI equipped? Dyno comparisons we will have to wait tll Dylan pops his car back on, but pre-recall fro what i remember Craig put out 103kw atw then after TRD CAI put out 108kw atw on the same dyno.
