manual, auto seems to me very lazy, kinda floaty and fruity (not that stuff that is fruity is bad....) and i dunno, i just dont preffer it. i am comparing the celica(manual) and the 92 festiva (auto) so its a bit unfair lol

Depends what car. The average passenger or performance/sports - Manual. Mid to high end luxury - Auto.

Prefer to have both types of transmission though if I were to own 2 cars.

theres nothing like driving manual..

but its also fun every once in a while to drive my parents corolla/landcruiser which are both autos... kinda like driving a go-cart!

but yea driving manual keeps me awake while driving.

ive had some serious situations falling asleep behind the wheel while i was on my Ps and early into my blacks.

has anybody had a chance to drive an auto on luxury cars such as bmw? I wonder how they feel compared to the toyota ones. Manual diffintely have the fun.

i like manual cuz of the POWER!!! :spiteful: yerh but after driving manual for soo long u jump in a auto car and it feels nice also lol but i'd stick with manual anyway u can redline it :toast:

I would prefer an auto for a daily driver. Its just so much easier to drive.

I feel sleepy even driving manual lol

Its just that a four speed auto is not that fun.

As the automatic transmission becomes more efficient and accessible to your average australian, then I'll take an auto anyday.

It's called MANual for a reason :P

Also, there is no such thing as semi-auto. It's just auto with buttons on the wheel (same applies to duel clutch jobbies).

you mean guys always having their hand on their stick?

i now have a very bad habit of changing the gears by grabing the stick of the shifter, not the knob like your spose to, and sometimes it leads to driving while leaving my hand grabing the stick bit. my friends always make hurtful coments lol. i really need to know a easy way to get outta the habit

It's gotta be manual. It's got more 'personality' than auto, which is sluggish, homogenous and timid to say the least (in my experiences with them). Although, my gearbox is on the shizen right now - all notchy, crunchy and requiring above-average force to move... sometimes when it's a hot day and I've got sweaty hands, my hand slips off and bangs hard into the steering column lol.

... but a m/t gearbox is massively cheaper than an auto transmission to fix ;) ;)

Ewww...... uhh... LOL :lol::toast::spiteful:

Back to the topic, I'm on an Auto-only license. Even with an Auto tranny, my car feels pretty fast (But I'll blame my lead foot on that.).

Never driven a Manual before, so I'm not sure how it works (Or how to use it.).

driving my old landcruiser bundera, i had a habit of always grabbing the stick.

now with the corolla and my isotta gearknob, the shaft is so short that all you can grab is the oversized knob.

The "driver" in me will always prefer a manual, but as I get a bit older, I'm preferring to cruise more, so an auto does the job quite well, especially in peak hour.

I have to say, as far as the "older" 4 speed autos go, the Corolla's is pretty good. It adjusts the shift speed according to how hard you're pushing it, and its very economical on a trip as well, especially with cruise control fitted to the car.

I suppose the reason I'm leaning towards auto more, is that my left knee is showing signs of strain?.

I think in about ten years from now my daily car will be auto for sure. Keep the manual for the weekend :D

Still flappy padels are fun when changing gear they also mean no need to take your hands off the wheel to grab your stick; then when you get bored of manual put her in auto. Got nothing against a manual though provides plenty of fun for spirited driving.
