  1. Subaru mechanics work on boxer engines most of the time and have the necessary tools and experience to service the brz/86. The brz comes with free service for the first 60 000ks. For toyota , the boxer engine is a whole new ball game and they will learn quickly.
  2. My neighbour looks after disabled cats and they just love the warmth oozing out of my bonnet scoop on a cold night. Now that it is 33 degrees they stay under my car. I just polish the scratch marks out with a lot of polish.
  3. You need to check the wiring diagram and compare the wiring. Also , does the after market radio wire up differently to the stock radio , if it is more power full than the stock radio , it might blow the fuse especially if the cigarette lighter and mirrors are used at the same time.
  4. Okay , so I made some references to d.i.c.k. smiths for buying digital multimeters for repairs and now i have zero warning points. Can I please have my warning removed as this is admin gone mad.
  5. Air con compressor can be noisy with its internal clutch , and the noise can be intermittent as clutch engages/disengages. If you put the plastic covers back on the noise might not be so noticeable.
  6. Enthusiasts are buying the new 86 at a much faster rate than it is being built - waiting list is sooooooooooooooooooooo long.
  7. 1/ Check the lead from the coil to the distributor for open circuit. 2/ Check carbon contact spring and rotor button inside distributor. 3/Check distributor cap for cracks / moisture. 4/Check all plug leads for open circuit. 5/ Check connections on coil are attached tightly. 6/Check coil for open circuit. I don't know if this model uses points or an electronic pick up , but these can also fail. Hope this helps. :)
  8. I am going to my first one this month. It is organised by the guys from toymods who are a friendly and help full bunch and know toyota mods. I have been to their celica appreciation , charity fundraiser day and had a great time.
  9. How are the lights re sealed when they are re assembled? And are they tested with a hose and in the rain?
  10. With different size tyres , does this not give wrong speedo readings?
  11. Sorry - they were sold very quickly , but keep looking on the gumtree web page.
  12. Might be good to check spark plugs and leads first
  13. The same thing happened with my corolla. I used my insurance to repair it and insisted that I wanted a top quality repair job with no bog used. It cost me $650 excess , but it was a first quality job. If it was done on the cheap instead of using insurance it would be a cheap nasty repair full of bog.
  14. There is a guy who posted a set of 4 16 inch zr rims with tyres on gumtree in sydney region yesterday. Top Ten Tyres trade in 15 inch celica rims for new tyres.
  15. Synthetic MT oil works wonders in the stiff gear box and replace the belt ( repco gato recommended ). What do you mean by "Synthetic MT oil works wonders in the stiff gear box"? My gearbox was stiff until the oil was replaced with penrite 75w90 synthetic manual transmission oil.
  16. Synthetic MT oil works wonders in the stiff gear box and replace the belt ( repco gato recommended ).
  17. Look at a few celicas in the daytime and test drive them to compare. I tried three before I chose the best one. Be especially wary of sunroofs which have problems and check for oil leaks , knocks and panel fit.
  18. When I use 95 in my 2004 corolla it has noticeably more torque than 91. I have also tried 98 , but can't notice any improvement over 95. I only use 98 in the celica. The two camrys only get cheap unleaded because they are for A-B transport .
  19. Welcome Meth :) Vertical door kits are very hard to install and maintain and add weight. But , if you must have them , watch the youtube installation videos first.
  20. LOL That is D.i.c.k. Smiths. The forum thinks I am using bad language.
  21. The wiring and 12V will need to be checked with a multimeter.***** Smiths sells cheap beginner multimeters for about $10. Also clean connectors with a cotton bud and isopropyl alcohol. Check crimped wiring inside connectors.
  22. I looked into refurbishing stock rims and a basic clean and powder coat is minimum $120/rim , with a large choice of colour. It's a lot cheaper to buy another secondhand good set or rims , about $50 each with good tyres on. It is hard to improve the stock CAI and there is the possibility of water logging with aftermarket CAIs. Lip kits and Sydney roads enjoy contact sport. As for exhaust , I am waiting for the stock exhaust to rust away b4 upgrades. The stock extractors/headers can't be improved upon. Maybe a high flow cat and improved catback / noise level is always an issue.
