  1. You hope! or he could take it straight to a specialist in the first instance and no doubt pay less for the privilege.
  2. Specialist, specialist, specialist or a dealer if your mechanic is not familiar with this transmission you are flirting problems down the track. Good luck
  3. Fair comment Trent, I would certainly love to take one for drive if I get the chance.
  4. Hi Trent. Nope never owned a TRD, just a 2011 Prodigy at the moment. Been for a spin in TRD but haven't driven one.
  5. Wow, Some of you guys are looking at the wrong engine to modify if you want something with more power than the supercharged engine Aurion why don't you get a V8 or modify a XR6 Turbo? Lets face it the Aurion is a great car but not one that is that great if you want it modify it to go really fast. Front wheel drive? Suspension? Auto?
  6. Defiantly not true, what would be the problem is not getting the fluid level correct because there is no dip stick. The level needs to be at the dip tube height at 40c - 45c for the fluid temperature. Or using the wrong fluid A job for either a competent informed person with the right gear or a A/T specialist
  7. Hold on fellas, reliable power? what does that mean? I expect you would want a Reliable and Long lasting engine in a street car, to my way of thinking on this topic you are not going to be able to achieve this with a significant modification for a power increase in a standard engine. But what the hell go for it, but I wouldn't expect both power & longevity.
  8. Seems pretty obvious to me if the engine internals were not strengthened over a stock 2GR-FE making the engine develop more KWs is going to have some bearing on engine life. You can get some crazy KWs out of a XR6 turbo engine however it will go boom a hell of a lot quicker than due to stress brought on by the modifications also in reality if you spent the money to do this you would have to use on a regular basis ay.
  9. Dear Ron, I defiantly would, nearly 9k for a rebuild from a dealer is great motivator for me, especially as you are towing sometimes. The WS fluid from Toyota is not that dear really if you want to stick to genuine fluid
  10. Sorry to hear about your A/T Steve I believe the capped price servicing, most manufacturers have come up with contributes to this type of problem for instance a mate of mine was told by his Toyota dealer that the fuel filter on his diesel Landcruiser is no longer a service item and would only be replaced if a problem arose, like the light coming on. Now diesel has not miraculously become very clean and we were all told to replace then every 40k but not now since capped price service is around. What's changed? Car reviews always include the price of the capped price service, great motivation to do less than minimum in my book. I can't for the life of me see how Auto trans fluid is supposed to last the life of a vehicle. I will continue to service mine every 20k myself, tis a bit fiddly but geez nearly 9K is great motivation.
  11. Good News, Sounds like a fair chance the service centre did not locate the oring on the filter housing properly it sits in a groove of its own not against the filter flange. The genuine filters come with a little diagram of where it sits. Simple job but not for some ay.
  12. Ahh that's why my rear view mirror on my Prodigy vibrates, I tightened the screw and now its all good. Great review mate.
  13. JAYCAR sell this product search for sound deadener "Combination butyl foam" $29.95
  14. Never done one myself but the factory manual calls for removal of Idler pulley Engine mount stay Front fender apron seal It is on the RH side under the flange (2 bolts) on the engine to which the radiator bottom hose is connected. Just had a look at mine and you would definitely have to take the parts described off to get to it, it all depends how good (or keen) you are with a spanner.
  15. I would fit a new Thermostat it shouldn't take 20 mins of driving to get to operating temp, probably best to get a genuine one as some of the after market ones are a bit hit and miss.
  16. Hi, Re your front demister with the climate control on (auto) the front demister will blow up on start as you described you can get a Toyota dealer to turn off this option via hooking it up to a Laptop using their Techstream software or you can buy a lead and the software (unauthorized version) off ebay and do it yourself. Cheers
  17. Hi Alex, If you want to avoid the clunk from the transmission during the shift from Park. "Parkbrake on" or in our case the foot operated Parkbrake"Shift to Neutral""Foot off the Foot brake""Shift to ParkThere should be no clunk when you shift into reverse unless your Parkbrake needs adjusting. I have been doing this all my driving life. Only because I don't like the "clunk noise"
  18. You have made a good point J the better fuel (if any) economy of 95-98 over 91 is just not viable given the extra price paid for it at the pump, it may give (according to Toyota) a 2% (98 ron) increase over in power or an extra 4kw over 91, not a big deal unless you going to be racing your car. By far the most difference you can make as seen in other members fuel economy figures is your right foot (assuming the car is well maintained). This is looking at the issue purely from an economic perspective. Footnote: Going the other way E10 is only viable if you can buy it for 3-4c cheaper than 91 due to ethanol being less efficient the petrol (source RACQ report)
  19. Hi, The Clunking noise is the computer testing the ABS braking system which happens every time you drive off (about 15kmh ) after starting. Give the fuel consumption average a while to settle back down the mechanics probably had it idling for a while and took it for a short spin hence the high figures. The Aurions fuel averages and distance to empty figures have always seemed a bit inconsistent to me compared to other cars I've owned. Also the fuel consumption figures reset when you fill up and start out right up at the top of the scale, bit silly really.
  20. The little cap is for draining oil out of the filter via part that comes with the new filter kit. You can unscrew the whole filter canister using a wrap around oil filter remover most places have em (or friends), it is not as good as the ones suggested by matt36415 but it will do the job. Use a good quality oil REGULARY Castrol recommend Castrol Edge 5-30w A3/B4 takes a bit over 6 L. But still, its not gonna fix your current problem. However it may stop some more serious ones in the future.
  21. Now that's done it!! the consumption cats have been thrown in amongst the power pigeons which in turn are both being chased by the price puppy. Don't think I'm gonna win this ;)
  22. A 2% gain in power opposed to 7.5% in price per litre. Jeffy what was your economy (lt per 100km) on 91 ron?
  23. Gilbo, Fuel can be a bit of a ripoff E10: you need to buy it 3-4c cheaper than 91 ron to break even (source RACQ) 95: is not worth the extra most engines setup for 91 ron like the Aurion don't get any better milage (source my experience and "The Checkout" program ABC) it may give you an extra kw or two but at what price? Stick with 91 and you can't go wrong.
