  1. I'm really diggin' these new gen Camry's. It's about time Toyota got serious. I was always worried they'd continue with the same blandness we've had from previous camry's AND losing the V6. I'm glad they are retaining the V6. That's the only engine for me. Can't wait to see them out on the road. The specs will be interesting too.
  2. I'd never put anything on the dash, door cards, consoles etc. No Chemicals, olive oil any other rubbish like that. All these will do is accelerate degradation. Too keep it protected either use a sun shade, crack your windows down 1cm like Campbeam says, use a dash mat, or try to park in the shade when ever possible. A sun shade combined with a dash mat... your car will love you. To clean, use a soft microfibre cloth in tepid water and wipe off dust and other contaminants. Ebay is usually a good place to start looking, then extend your search to all your local Auto shops and compare brand, price and quality.
  3. I like those Chris Fix videos. He is very competent and seems like a cool bloke too.
  4. Touch up spray paint will never match, and will be especially noticeable if you only do the spot repair. You will need to remove the skirt and paint the whole thing so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. If you have no painting experience, the couple hundred bucks you can spend at a professional paint shop might be money well spent than you having to fiddle with it, breaking mounting clips, trying to get paint matched, primer, sandpaper, masking tape, wax and grease remover etc.. Not to mention time. You'll spend a whole day on it.
  5. I decided to get a set of these as Phil Gilbert Toyota had a nice discount on them. I did look on ebay for some cheaper alternatives, but thought, bugger it. Better stick to original as the fitment should be superior and better quality. 1st impression of them was excellent. It is a nicely made item. The instructions to fit are a little dubious though, hence my asking. Anyone had a go at fitting these before I attempt myself ? Step 1 in the install instructions, It says to lower the door glass. Ok. Makes sense. Then it goes on to say Remove Frt & RR Door Glass Run from Door Panel shown in figure 1.1 and 1.2. What the hell do they mean exactly ?? Remove the window channel rubber ?? It shouldn't be complicated right ?
  6. If you are light on the foot it can reward you with excellent numbers. I have between 8-9lt around town. Freeway runs with good flow often yields 5ish . Gotta love the V6 !
  7. Yes, this is also possible in certain circumstances. I have been lucky like that in the past. Using a compression tool is much easier though.
  8. Thanks Peter. For pushing the piston back a medium sized G clamp found in most sheds will be fine. I placed a thin block of timber over the piston prior to pushing. Also don't forget to remove the master cylinder cap and watch the fluid level as you squeeze. The old fluid (and should be low due to the worn pads and pistons almost reaching their full range) may come up and spill out. You can just put a clean cloth in to soak up the excess or a syringe.
  9. For what is worth, get yourself at least 2 500ml bottles of new Dot 4 and use them up.
  10. Exactly Ash. I was extremely careful during the bleed process not to introduce air by monitoring the master cylinder cup. I went through roughly 800mls of new Dot 4 to be satisfied.
  11. At any rate, I will perform another periodic flush in a few months time. My wife helped me bleed the brakes. I prefer the foot on the pedal push application rather than the power bleeder, which is unreliable. I will have to ask her nicely again in a few months.
  12. Ahh yes !! Good advice Trent. I never thought to do that. Thank you
  13. So my idea of the flush in the coming months may alleviate the case of stale fluid ?
  14. I also wonder when you do the fluid flush by purging all four calipers.... What about the fluid in the ABS unit ?? Does this also get a purge as we purge the calipers ??
  15. I am planning on another fluid flush in around 6 months just for the hell of it to see the difference in clarity of the spent fluid. The flush I recently did was the factory fill fluid and it was way past due. The fluid looked clean in the reservoir, but what actually comes out will surprise.
  16. Thanks Ash. I prepared well in advance and took my time to do it properly. Very happy with the results, even though I used near stock parts. The car brakes far better than it ever has.
  17. The hell with the car mate. Some Iced up to the ball scum piece of crud scum, let them have it. The cops will get them. CCTV is everywhere now. No where to run, no where to hide. Glad the grub didn't do anything too stupid. That Mongrel needs immediate detox.
  18. Wow ! That's an achievement and testament to the build quality of Toyota. Well done
  19. I got around to replacing my front rotors and pads if anyone's interested. I also flushed the fluid from all for corners. Note the Glass jar and the condition of the fluid. I was shocked. Flushed with 2 bottles of castrol dot 4. Brake feel is excellent after a brief bedding in. I also wired brushed all the studs and the centre stubb and applied some Moly Grease to the threads and the mating surfaces of the wheels to the rotor.
  20. I'll take the Penrite on the Chin. But it's heaps expensive. As far as Commodores are concerned, I'll never buy one, let alone a 6lt gas guzzler. My Aurion is absolutely perfect for me.
  21. I concur with MIKHALE. Every he said is exactly correct. Without starting an oil war, Just to add too. The Nulon oil is an excellent product and reasonably priced. The grubs at Castrol, Mobil, and most of the others will ONLY supply a 5 lt, so the owners who need 6.1lt will need to either buy a 1lt bottle for an extra 20 something bucks to get that extra Litre, or you will have to buy 2x a 5 lt @ say 70 bucks a pop !! Talk about marketing/gouging. At least Nulon has the decency to provide the 6 lt. and it is all you need for our cars. Kudos to Nulon, and I would rather support an Australian Company than give my hard earned money to Grubs. Keep an eye out for Nulon 5w-30 6lt. When they go on special they are sub 50 bucks. Grab a few and keep as spare if you can afford it. Cheers Tony
  22. It doesn't hurt the engine if the oil is higher than the dot. I too use the same oil as you, only thing is I put the entire 6lt in and it fills it to just over the dot. Plenty enough. I won't spend the extra 20 odd bucks for the 0.1lt. 6 lt is plenty. I'm sure others might disagree.
