Fuel economy advice

Yea on my pulsar thats kinda what started to happen, but on my civic it wasnt so much the chassis that I felt the vibration from but the steering started shaking like a bitch.

There a ECU fuse under bonnet, just remove it for 20 minutes if you think of disconnecting battery idea is no good especially will SMART START.

yeah u could say it was a quick foto so i could grab the steering wheel again lol but ive gone faster i did 240 b4 the cruise cut out then i reckon bout another 10km/h after that but that coulda been out with the wheels etc but it was extremely stable i reckon well to be confident enough to take a pic anyway mines lowered and wider tyres so that helps but id do it again many times it felt that good

then again i came from driven 10'' lifted hiluxes to a 1/34'' lowered aurion so stabilty was formula one i reckon lol

finally cracked 2000 km

after 3 cycles of decrease in fuel economy, I saw 3 weeks of increase

Had a strange experience this week with petrol....Ive used normal Unleaded in the 3 months I've had it, but this week put in 95 octane fuel. Fuel economy according to the computer was normally about 14 (alot of stop start short driving) but this week it has been between 9-10L/100km...I dont drive any different, maybe slightly more relaxed but not enough to reduce it 5L/100km!

While on the topic then, I did yet another calculation. Man it seems that I do a bit of driving. After travelling a total of 12781km over the past 5 months (and after $2165 and 1420.46 litres of fuel), my average fuel consumption is sitting at 11.1L/100km. So it has progressively gone up from 10.4 to 10.8 and now to 11.1. This is justifiable though since I've noticed my driving has not relaxed but gone the complete opposite. I'm stating to get too used to my car that I need to give it more to get the same feel. Oh well.

A bit off topic - but I think Shell's premium unleaded (V-power) is actually 98 octane.

is that all lol ive done 25000km's in 7 months lol but i did drive 10,000 of that in 2 weeks from down south to darwin lol

Good point I wasn't debating which fuel was being used just that V- power is 98 RON does anyone have any idea why shell only offers V-power and not 95 RON as well??

My Aurion has just touched the 20k mark.

Average consumption over last 12 mths is 9.3L/100

This is based on 80% freeway travel and smooth acceleration of around 2k rpm at traffic lights.

Petrol used is Shell 95.

Apparently the brand of petrol also matters. I can never get such good result on Caltex 95.

Highway consumption is pretty good, reading was at 8.1L and I managed to get from Melbourne to Falls Creek and back on one full tank.

UPDATE

So I'm almost on empty, with the estimated range left being 60 km and i've driven 450-460km already. So about 500+km on a almost full tank and running Shell Unleaded Premium - whilst my fuel economy ranged between 9.8L/100km to 10.7,10.8L/100km. At the moment it's sitting at 10.2L, with most of it being freeway driving, probably about 65 ,70%.

Fuel settle back to 11-12L over the following few weeks using 95 octane. Then in a daze last week I put normal unleaded in & the fuel economy went back up to 14Lish. Im back to 95 Octane now & its working back down - 13.1L a.t.m

does anyone know if the computer reading of the aurion fuel consumptions are accurate enough?

so far the lowest fuel consumption i've had was 7.6L which was on a highway and driving around suburban street's i'd average around 9.6L-10.3L at the max.

I haven't floor'd my car yet so wouldn't know how high it would go but when I first purchased the car it was averaging around 12L.

I use BP Ultimate.

I use vortex 98 (castrol) whenever possible. See attached picture, this a tank of vortex 98 and as can be seen the actual k's already travelled and the estimated remaining. On the refill I was only able to put 58 litres in. I have repeated this many times of late and an convinced it is possible to get over 800 k's from a tank. I have tried vpower but it does not give the same result.

The last picture shows 720+ k's from vortex 98 (58 litres refill of vortex 95 gave a lower estimated range as can be seen). Car seems to know the type of fuel you put in and gave a lower range

technically the car knows exactly how much fuel it injected

so it can potentially be very accurate

an "error" of less than 0.5L/100km is likely to be caused by small variations in petrol fill during manual calculation

5.3L = Impressive.

I found the engine seems to like running on the same type of fuel, not mix and match. I get better readings after a couple of weeks on the same fuel, usially 95 Octane.

well the missus just seen FUEL MISER'S 5.3l/100km reading best she's done is 7.7l so she reckons shes gonna beat it, somehow i think she'll fail if i sneak in a give it too it for 2 secs :D :D :D :D :D

I've just done a 635k drive, mostly sensible hwy driving a tad over the limit, with occasional spirited overtaking.

The tank was full to the brim at the very beginning of this trip.

Tyre pressures at 32 kpi all round.

The fuel warning light came on at 630ks...that's 10.5 litres left isn't it?

The tank took 55 litres.

I estimate 8.66litres per 100ks. I'm happy with that.

Car is a 14mth old ATX, with 22Kks on the odo.

On the same run, my previous Commodedore needed 10 litres put in on the home stretch to get home. <_<

Here are a couple more for the collection. I actually managed a 4.5 l/100 and a 4.1 l/100, these were both traveling from the caltex servo at mt vic to the start of the m4 (about 50+ k's). Sorry no photos of these, but several family members were in the car that can verify it thou.

The car will notch up 33,000 k's tomorrow on the way to work. It is still a great feeling to get into it.
