what car have you driven?

Recommended Posts

interesting thread...

lemme see what ive driven in the past...?

ford laser KC 1987? - first car.. auto.. broke down every 3-6 weeks for one reason or another. never gonna trust an old ford (or second hand car dealer) again!

toyota bundera landcruiser 1985 - my second car, which was a hand me down from my brother. drove that for 3-4 years until i got my corolla.

toyota landcruiser 100 series 1998 - auto.. parents car. man that thing can handle rivers n mud muahahaha! 2 filipinos can easily sleep in the back with the seats up.

toyota hiace 1992? - manual, the family business van.. column shift!? fun!

toyota corolla 1998 - auto, sedan..

toyota celica sx 1998 - manual, the car my brother moved on to when he gave me the bundera.

"toyota" jeepney... manual, soft top, no aircondition, no seatbelts, no registration, no legroom for the front seats.. even less room for the poor buggers in the back seats!, no adjustable drivers seat, no left or right indicators, no doors, no window wipers and the best part - all aluminium panels! (only in the philippines)

as for other cars which ive just driven, friends cars n such -

subaru rx 200? model... bubble eyed one... nice 2 drive.. felt faster 2 drive than my conquest... but yea thats a 2.0litre engine yea?

mitsubishi station wagon.. 199? model... automatic.. ok car.. reliable i guess, nothing seemed wrong with it although i never felt safe in it.

hyundai excel 1995 - always looked down on excels, but very easy 2 drive... if i wasnt so loyal 2 my toyotas and just wanted a car 2 get me A to B id probebly go 1 of these.

mitsubishi delica 1990 - auto, 4wd, japanese surplus vehicle which was converted to left hand drive, which was funny because they didnt bother to move the handbreak. (philippines)

generic "multicab" *year unknown* - another philippines original... no seatbelts, no stereo.. this was a private vehicle which is more commonly used for public transport in the philippines... back features no windows, only 2 bench seats on either side which would squeeze in about 12-14 filipinos. often mistaken for a public vehicle since commuters would hop on the back while it was moving, thinking it was a public vehicle.

my current ride is starting to make its way up there to the top of my list for me ..... being FWD it might not be the quickest thing getting off the line but in that acceleration zone once the car is going because its a lighter car than most with similar and less power outputs the stivo freaks me out every now n then wen i put my foot down .....    i still remember when i left the tuners and turning onto the freeway the car lit them up at 90km/h in 3rd :o :o :o :o .... i was like WTF thats never happened before and i wasnt expecting it to happen either .....

that dealership sounds like the peter warren group in warwick farm

lol yea i worked for them but i worked out in camden and narellan at there dealers so the peter warren group were still paying me lol

Ayyyy you gotta tell the truth with those Lazer's hahaha.

ok a lil bit more truth about the salesman...

just after we discovered the car in the caryard, the dealer paused and stated to us that "things rarely ever go wrong with these cars"... "very dependable first car".

the body looked clean (no rust or dents) but it wasnt long when engine parts (ie. belts and things) began falling off the car WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT.

never drove a mazda... they look pretty nice now looking at the red 1 up in these forums... corzzas (excuse d spelling) isnt it?

actually.. come to think of it... may need to make a separate thread for this question, but its closely related to the question put to this thread...

(IN CASE ANYONE HASNT PUT UP THIS THREAD ALREADY)...

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR?

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST CAR?

1977 Ford Escort (dad and I restored it. 2.0L Pinto w. twin weber carbies ftw!)

THEN...

We could bear to drive it anymore because we spent too much money on it... so I bought an old KE Corolla to drive around in.

Then enter Sportivo... :D

Wow, my list pales in comparison to most here, although one of mine is probably faster than almost any other car here (up to a point)

First car ever driven:

1996 Camry 4 cyl, manual- Parent's car, learnt to drive in it. First impressions were of a decent car, but when I go back and drive it now it just feels like a boat.

First car ever owned:

1981 KE55 Corolla SE, manual - Bought it for my g/f to drive, but we're both on the rego. Incredibly slow, but incredibly loud

Fastest car ever been a passenger in:

ST162 Celica with ST184 3SGTE pushing around 22psi. In the dry, could munch FD RX7s for breakfast. In the wet, would struggle to beat a stock Falcadore. Serious traction issues

Slowest car ever driven:

1981 KE55 (same car as before) - Very obvious reasons, still running the 4K so probably only 20-30kw atw. Still draws a lot of attention because of the noise though

Fastest car ever driven:

2005 UN Racing Formula SAE race car - only 600cc from a Honda CBR600 F4i engine, and around 60HP (had a mandatory 20mm intake restrictor), but only weighed 300kg with driver and was geared to do about 140km/h in 6th. Would probably do 0-100km/h in the 3 to 4 second range (couldn't reach this in the competition due to track size). This, with your backside literally an inch off the ground (the brace at the bottom of the rollbar would often scrape over even minute bumps)

Total list of cars driven and their relationship to me (all manual unless otherwise stated):

SDV10R Camry - parent's car, learnt to drive

AE102R Corolla - parent's car, but effectively mine

2004 Mazda2 - parent's car

2005 FSAE car - University's race car, I designed the combined axle/hubs and the suspension uprights, plus provision for a traction control system. 6-speed sequential gearbox with C02 paddle-shift

Late '90s Ford Courier 4WD crewcab- Departmental work car when I was working at Liddell Power Station.

Late '90s Holden Rodeo 2WD V6 singecab - Chemist's ute at Liddell, used whenever the Courier was somewhere else. Almost bald tyres and V6 meant that it was scary in the wet, and even scarier in the mush (coal dust and water are extremely slippery). Instant sideways action if ever I needed it

AWD Magna - only auto I've ever driven, and even then only for a very short distance from the contractors shanty town back to the office at Liddell.
