honestly mate with if theres sand and paint in engine, if your insured, It will probably be written off. no one knows if the engine been started with sand in it, if it has, will require rebuild or replacement,

Sorry to here. but we wouldn't know. How long is a piece of string?

You will need to query that with your insurance company who will have an assessor and repairer look over the car and compile a quote.

Even then you won't need to know if you have full comprehensive insurance who will cover that but you'll need to pay Excesses.

Hopefully that helps and good luck ;)

Cheers thanks!

Yeah i have insurance, just trying to work out what they may do with it... the people who will do the quote of the insurance think it is better if its written off..

Thank for your feedback!

well it's a ton of labour to repair.

They'd replace any parts that are paint/oil damaged, the engine and fuel tank would have to come out, engine torn down and cleaned/re-assembled, fuel tank stripped down and cleaned, pump/filter assy replaced, radiator cleaned/replaced, etc etc etc.

With labour being around the $80/100hr mark they may class it as uneconomical to repair.

Are you insure at market value or agreed value?

Just said your car still worth $20K, the insurance company will only write off your car if the repair bills will exceeding $20k.

You might get a new engine for around $5K or may be less but not sure how much will be the labour costs to replace an engine.

Good luck and all the best.

Write off for sure..

Why does your car get stolen, it is a 2008 model and fit with immobiliser. Does your car look high profile to others?+

Common misconception. They can write the car off at any value in which they think is uneconomical for them to repair. Say the accident only had $9,000 worth of damage... there may be instances where due to the damage they may simply just write it off. It all comes down to the assessment.

They didnt get to far due to that... so they trashed the car.... (they only got down the hill)

It's a shame that's for sure, but I don't understand all that sand. Any mods? did they take anything or just damaged?

And paint. Were they stealing it to go to a job? Odd...

Very sorry to hear about all that damage mate. However as previously stated, it smacks of someone who is not quite best mates with you. Car thieves don't do that. And they don't steal 2008 Corollas to "do jobs" (eg armed robberies etc) very often. Have you ****** someone off recently?!?!?!

I would suggest the insurance company will write it off.

Which leads me to think: next project.... :yahoo:

I meant what were they doing with paint and sand, heading to a work site? ; )

But yeah, malicious intent, not cool. Good thing you had insurance.

Damn dude sorry to hear, wouldn't wish that upon my worst enemy...

Our old Ford stationwagon got stolen back in the day, all the robbers did was drive it to Dromana and leave it in a ditch. They didn't put paint in the car and sand into the engine and whatnot.

I'm also on the other guys' side - definitely done with malicious intent. Again, sorry to hear.

Ah, now I'm with you! A couple of disgruntled labourers, disenchanted with the lack of work recently because of the rain... :whistling:

Hurray for insurance.
