How much have you spent on modding?

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering and hope you guys don't mind disclosing this information.

How much have you spent on the mods that is currently installed in your ZRE? Discounting other mods that you might already have sold.

Oh and maybe you can tell me the modding path you took? For example, perhaps you started with the wheels first, then suspension, then the engine, etc.

This'll be a great info for clueless noobs like myself to get some idea on how much I'd be looking to spend and where to start. Cheers.

Thanks for the info guys.

Damn Ben, that's a lot of money. I think it would've been better for me to just buy something a bit more sporty like a Mazda 3 mps 2nd hand rather than modding my brand new ZRE. Or at least buy a 2nd hand ZRE and mod that.

Maybe I'll just wait for the ft-86.

What would you suggest for a middle of the road, not too expensive mod that'll improve the car's performance?

Thanks again guys.

when it comes to modifying cars there is one golden rule.

fast, cheap, reliable... pick two.

I plan to keep the car for at least 5 to 10 years

Toyota Corolla is reliable. I do not trust the reliability of turbo cars

Many of the mods I did are very basic, brakes, tires, CAI, rims... no matter what I car I bought, I have to do the same mod list.

especially if I track the car. At least the mod for ZRE is cheaper than a Mazda MPS

I am sure if I get a MPS or a Golf GTI, the mods are even more expensive

Although my mod is $7500, but I own a Ascent, which costs 22K, which adds up to $32K, not that bad

I have been always reluctant to buy a top model

My favourite car is Honda Type R FD2 (only sold in Japan), light weight, no turbo, good handling

Probably just under $10,000 and that is not including wheels yet (or counting tyres)

Big $ items were

Leather interior $2000

TRD Sports Muffler approx $900

JDM Blue (rain repellant) Mirrors approx. $300

TRD Suspension (Shocks, Springs and Swaybar) $2500 (from memory)

Toyota MotorSport Steering Wheel $500

Toyota Follow Me II Sat Nav (with i-pod bits and travel pack to use in wife's Camry) $1800

Alpine Type R Speakers $550

A/c to rear dash vent (on current LevinZR) $385

The rest is made up of alot of $100 items

Disturbingly the Tarago bill is even higher

If you want to really scare someone ask Juvenille how much he has spent

Ohhh, better ask the accountant that one.....

I laughed... I too, do not want to work it out. All the pre-face ZREs would have spent more due to limit of products at the start, all the trial and errors... I'll stop thinking about it now! :P
