ok, so a mate and me were "discussing" about weights of the oil. i currently use a 10W60 in my car. I used to use a 5W60 in my car. He said its too heavy and i'm damaging the engine. I say that the only thing thats hurting is fuel economy but i get better lubrication and protection. I choose that over an engine rebuild. i used to use a 5W40 and i suspect that this is the reason why fuel economy went down. anyways am i doing damage?

did some googling research and websites saying the same thing: thicker oil is better at lubricating but at the expense of mileage.

discuss.

i dunno, i thought as i track my car the "extra protection" would be good. i didnt think it would be harming my engine -_-

Ok I deal with hydraulics at the mines.. When you start to go thicker.. Do you ever wonder it's more stress on the pump? Magine sucking a thick shake through a tiny straw at maccas, and not their thick as5 straw.. My 2 cents

It might be ok for track use apart from a tiny loss of power. Keep in mind, oil does thin with heat and more use. But as mentioned, youll be putting more strain on your pump.

No way am I technical but from what iv researched its kinda a double edged sword. Thicker is better lube but more stress on pump and engine and thinner may be less lube but easier to pump? Maybe meet in the middle and go 5w50?

How bout use specified oil what toyo says? They didn't come up with 5w30? out of thin air.. Lol

I use Fuchs Titan Supersyn 5W-40 in both my road and track Stivo. Started using this in the track Stivo since the last rebuild and after around 10000 kms of track time we pulled the head off and looked absolutely pristine in there. I say a high quality 5W-40 is thick enough, even for track time. I actually prefer the Fuchs to both Royal Purple and Redline...

I just started running liqui-moly 10w-40 + mos2 anti-friction additive. It runs really well, can't wait to try the 5w-40 when it comes to colder weather :D

Not sure how one oil can be recommended over another without used oil analysis results. The quality oils will perform pretty well for 99.9% of vehicles and situations.

I'd skip the additives too.

No reason other than they were the first mob I found in the phone book. Each test is $33 from memory, includes the postage of the sample, no idea if there is a postage cost to send the kits to you as I always pick them up in person when I'm in the area.
