  1. Hi there, do you mean the flip down tailgate ? If so, they don't or ever had a strut. They are simply hinged and supported with a high tensile steel cable on both sides. I've had many dual cabs in my time and none ever came with a strut. That's just how they are.
  2. Haha, well said. Some people just find it hard to wield spanners and I get that. It's something that comes from within. I've been tinkering since I was a boy back in the late 70s when I had my dragster bicycle, my Dad's garage had plenty of tools available for me to choose from. It was exciting as a young kid to find the right tool and adjust or mend something. That's where my DIY mentality started. Dad was a very handy man too, still is God bless him. He was an accomplished carpenter and metal worker among many other things and he had everything in the home workshop. It opened my eyes at a very young age. Made me what I am today. I imagine if I my Dad was an office person would I have had the desire for this, probably not. Our lives can be shaped by those around us as we look to them for guidance and some kind of inspiration. I'm grateful for the life experience and it has enabled me not only to save money, but enjoy what I consider a hobby too.
  3. I have to agree with you. We're not customers, but cash cows. Service with a smile but it's like the smiling assassin. If you're not careful they'll take your wallet too. Pride and ownership are slowly being eroded to the point where the trainees aren't being supervised well enough. They turn up to work and just take the P!SS all day long and laugh about it with their mates later. I don't trust any dealership full stop. I do all my service work myself.
  4. It's probably not necessarily a capacity related thing but maybe it's due to a shorter pipe run. Not really sure but I have no complaints about it's efficiency. It has better A/C than my 2020 Colorado that's for certain.
  5. Bit difficult to say, but if there is a tap, tap, tap sound, it seems like something making is contact during rotation. Take the cover off and see if there is a witness mark inside the plastic cover. This may get you closer to the culprit. I wouldn't suggest leaving the cover off either. It's there for a reason.
  6. I agree, especially when you have dark tint. I have legal tint on my Colorado and I always reverse into my driveway to make my morning escape easier lol, and sometimes pulling in at night is a pain to judge the entry from the street kerb. I find myself squinting at side view mirrors hoping to line one side up without overshooting the mark.
  7. Haha, nope. They changed the game with the Aurion. It was a small shock to the system when I learned about how to do a transmission service on the Aurion at first. After I got my head around the procedure, it took me some time to prepare mentally for it too because you have to be very well prepared and methodical. Here's a link to my Transmission service if you haven't come across it yet.
  8. All good mate. You're welcome. My Aurion V6 will have a very similar approach to this when it's time to do mine. You may as well do the rocker cover gaskets and spark plugs at the same time because you'll have to dismantle half the engine all over again to do this, so do the plugs too and be done with it. All the best and hope your car is ok
  9. I'm pretty sure the WS is a mineral based trans fluid. Did I read this incorrectly ? Penrite LV ATF is perfectly safe for the U660E and being a full synthetic it should provide superior protection over the WS. Penrite even specify it and I wouldn't doubt them on this.
  10. I suspect you have the 1MZ-FE engine. If you're confident enough to do it yourself, Here are a couple of videos you can watch to see why it costs so much. Unfortunately transverse V6's aren't that easy to work on unless you have some confidence and a DIY approach. If you can't be bothered, then just have someone experienced to do it and save you all the pain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7mZYWo_o_Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgKHUq6mYiY
  11. Is this a similar model to yours ? https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2002-toyota-camry-sportivo-auto/OAG-AD-19315370/?Cr=4 https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2002-toyota-camry-sportivo-auto/OAG-AD-19315370/?Cr=4
  12. It looks suspiciously like your transfer case seal is leaking. Look at the oil on the exhaust system, under the transfer case itself and the upper area where fluid gearbox oil has been thrown around with centrifugal force. As Ashley mentioned. Get in there and do a thorough degrease and take it for a drive and take another look. I'm sure you'll find it quickly enough. By the way, is your oil cooler transfer pipe rubber hose still pliable ? If it's starting to harden, i'd get it replaced asap before you dump oil everywhere and risk losing oil pressure. Yo can kiss your engine goodbye after this.
  13. Is your Camry a V6 or a 4cyl ?
  14. To Summarise: Aurion 40 Series: 7PK2090 Aurion TRD: 7PK2875 Aurion 50 Series: 7PK1550
  15. That's much easier on the Avalon compared to the Aurion. I know because my Dad used to have one. You're lucky because you have a regular drain plug and a dipstick. Drain the pan, screw the plug back in and fill via the tube the amount you took out and you're done. So easy, can be done in ten minutes. Unfortunately the Aurion is a totally different beast. First, you have to get the car up and level laterally and longitudinally. This can take around 30 minutes in itself and is very frustrating. You need this to be able to set the fluid level later. You then drain the fluid via the straw, which is screwed inside the pan, only after unscrewing the drain plug. You can undo the pan if you like too. Then you need to put it all back together and fill the transmission from an access plug on the side of the transmission with a fluid transfer pump. After filling it with the approximate amount you took, you then have to start the engine, warm the transmission up to between 40 and 45 degrees C then undo the sump plug and drain the excess fluid until it slows to a dribble. You then screw the drain plug back on and you're done setting the fluid level. Time taken for pan drain from start to finish is anywhere between 1 and 2 hrs. So for all the trouble I'd go to do a pan drain on its initial service it's not worth it after having invested that much time setting the car up, I may as well do the full flush to purge all the old fluid out and have the nice new fully synthetic stuff in there. Then after this time I will only do annual pan drains if i'm inclined or maybe every two years. Now do you wish to buy an Aurion ?
  16. I'm not sure about the 40 series Aurion but the 50 series comes with Toyota WS fluid as factory fill. It is not synthetic but seems to do a good job from the reports I've read. When I did my transmission service, I moved to Penrite fully synthetic LV ATF for superior protection. It is the drop in replacement for WS. I did a full flush of my transmission at 120K. The fluid in it was still the factory fill and quite surprisingly the condition of the fluid was pretty good. A bit darker in colour, of course, but not even a hint of that brown tinge that would suggest expired fluid. It could've gone another 20K easy but I did a proper flush contrary to what some think about flushing. If done the proper way it's a much quicker and less painful exercise of doing constant pan drains. You remove the return line, place this into a bucket to collect, fill the transmission with new fluid, start the engine and let it bleed the old stuff while it's pushing the new stuff in behind it. After the 4th or 5th go, the fluid comes out as new as it does in the bottle and you're done. I've had no adverse reaction so far.
  17. Hi Greg, from what I've read on this it could be several things. A low battery can cause weird electrical issues, so I'd check battery voltage. Another possibility could be a faulty flasher relay. The contacts could've shorted. Some are also reporting an electrical PCB (not sure where this is) issue. Have you tried disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting ? This usually resets electrical glitches. Has the car had any electrical work done on it lately, such as the installation of an aftermarket alarm ? I'd be interested to know the cause to. Seems to be a common problem in the Landcruiser range.
  18. Hi Daniel and welcome. Glad to have another Aurion owner/member here. Good to see you have a DIY approach too as this will not only save you $$$, but help you understand your car better as you go along. Don't hesitate to post and by all means upload pics too. It's nice to see what others are up to visually. My 2 cents on head units, I'm not really into car stereos much these days, but if I had to, I'd look at a brand name and not waste my time with cheap Chinese junk. They are cheap for a reason and you will have no recourse if it fails. Too much rubbish is coming out of there these days and landfill can only take so much. Alpine, Pioneer, JVC, just a few good brands that come to mind. I was an Alpine guy back in the day and I still have some of my old components stashed away. Testament to quality, I decided to keep them rather than sell them with the cars I had at the time. Can't use them today of course, but I love nostalgia. Regarding your oil service. We've spoken about this at great length here and a good rule to follow for the 2GR-FE is not to let it go beyond 10k or 6 months as they are prone to sludging. Use only high quality synthetic oil (5w-30) and you'll have no issues. Penrite, Nulon, Mobil 1, whatever you like. We wait till the specials and stock up. It's an ongoing gag we have here with our oil stashes. 😄. You'll find out. Have a great day and take care. Hope to hear from you soon.
  19. I had no idea. Interesting stuff. If anyone can make a CVT that is smooth as silk it has to be Lexus/Toyota engineers. I must say, I drove a Corolla CVT before my Aurion Ownership and I hated it. Just never felt like a transmission should. The big rev and whine from take off had me laughing hard ! It's the dumbest thing I've ever driven. Why CVT ? Just put a normal transmission in there for God's sake. They have to mess with everything. Take something good and then make it worse.
  20. I have read this. The Germans are conquering the world with their brilliant ZF trans. Why am I not surprised. I totally agree. My Aurion drives amazingly well. Smooth changes and never an issue. Just don't abuse it as we've seen from recent posts.. Haha yeah. Let's hope they keep 'em there.
  21. I know. It's kinda getting on the side of the ridiculous. Just like 8 speed, 10 speed transmissions. Sheesh !! What next ? 12 speed, 14 speed, 16 speed, 20 speed,30 speed, 40 speed, 50 speed
  22. Hey Eugene. Maybe try some penetration spray and then try levering it up with a decent sized flat blade screwdriver. Normally the rod should just pop out, but looks like your's is stuck to the plastic. Keep trying. It will come off.

    Towbar

Hi Amanda, Just had a quick look at it looks like the tow bar system for the Kluger seems unchanged from Dec 2013 to Nov 2019. The range of any given model year has no bearing on fitment. Structurally they are all the same underneath. They just have different lipstick so to speak. https://www.newtowntoyota.parts/PZQ6448061/New-Genuine-Toyota-Kluger-Towbar-Kit-2000kg-Braked
