  1. Ah the joys of modern tech. Hi John and welcome to the forum. It's possible it was just a glitch, but it could also be a compatibility issue with your phone's O.S. Have you tried downloading the app again ? You should also try it on another phone. Your phone software may need an update.
  2. I love how Scotty, or Americans in general say that the Toyota Corolla is actually a Matrix. It's a Matrix because it was renamed specifically for the U.S. Market with a few changes to suit them. It is, and always has been a Toyota Corolla. It began life as a Corolla in 1966 and will continue to be a Corolla till the end of days. As much as I love Scotty, he is also very well known for his click bait titles. He unashamedly admitted this too in one of his videos. Ash, you mention water/flood damaged cars. Which car was it ? Some flood damaged cars could be ok if the water doesn't go up to the "boat line", then you can have all sorts of grief. You will practically have to strip most of the car back and go through every individual connector and clean thoroughly. Modern computer driven cars don't play nice if there is crud in the connections. Remember when we drove our old school analogue cars with those crappy molex plugs ? As bad as they were, letting in oil, moisture, dirt and water, the engines would always start with a helping of WD40 lol. No computers to worry about then. Modern CANBUS systems require high quality plugs and if you ever pulled one and inspected it's construction, there would be your answer. Although not water proof, definitely better than a molex in that the o ring type seals are designed to keep the pins moisture and dirt free otherwise the computer will have throw a wobbly 🤪
  3. That's a good idea Ash. Looks like the persistence is starting to pay off. Only thing is now, what are we going to call "sludgy" now that it's nearly sludge free ?? Might have to take a poll on that one 😄
  4. Hi Julie and welcome to the forum. My sympathies go out to you for the shoddy dealer service you've experienced. Although I never use them, I know there are good dealers out there who do appreciate their customers and then there are those Lackeys that you got. Looks like they don't want your business. I'd be putting a rocket up the management and be ready to name and shame them so others are forewarned. This is the exact reason why dealerships get a bad name and this notion that if you take your car to the dealer, your car gets serviced correctly and are advised in the same manner can be a false economy. You even have the privilege of over paying for the crappy service too. Well, what do you know ?? I also love the theory of a radio black spot. I nearly fell of my chair laughing ! How would they be able to quantify that ? A good comparison would be to have an identical vehicle with the same radio drive through the same patch of road to verify this and then ask them how much bull dust they'd like to eat lol... I can't say for sure what could be causing your reception issue, but I'd be checking all the usual connections. Sometimes the factory do get it wrong on the production line, with the time constraints placed on individuals, and connectors are sometimes not plugged in all the way. Try re seating the plugs and see. The radio could also have a dodgy receiver. It's difficult to say at this time. All the best Julie
  5. Fuel quality is difficult to determine, but you'd like to think it's ok. Maybe it's time for a major service if it has little to no history. 276k is up there and a fuel filter should’ve been done already. If you know a good mechanic, let him have a look over it. A fuel pressure test can determine the condition of the pump/filter. Your fuel injectors could be suspect but I'd look at the delivery side first.
  6. Nothing wrong with 91 for the 2GR-FE. If you want to use 95, it's up to you but using 91 doesn't cause any ongoing issues. It's possible your fuel filter may be due. It's an in tank fuel filter. How many kays has she done ?? The question can also be asked about the quality of fuel used over it's lifetime. Sometimes you can fill up your tank when the servo's underground tanks are low and you end up with cruddy fuel and this will sit in your tank and be picked up when you drive with low fuel. That long start you're experiencing could be a slight drop in fuel pressure caused by a dirty fuel filter and or a fuel pump intake sock. Yes it is.
  7. I agree. Give it a thorough degrease and check it daily to see where it's coming from. My thoughts are it's not power steering but engine related because the colour of the oil. I've never seen power steering fluid turn golden brown. It looks suspiciously like engine oil seepage.
  8. Hi Alex and welcome to the forum. You made a wise choice to buy a Camry. It will be far superior to any VW you've owned for sure. I've had no experience with Hybrids but have owned many Toyotas over the years and have found them to be fine vehicles. The build quality is outstanding and the levels of refinement given to the Camry over recent years, Aurion included, has put them closer to the Lexus. Mods are good too, and wheels upgrade would a great place to start. If I purchased my Aurion new, that's what I would've done. Nice to preserve the original wheels as new for the later years or if you ever decide to sell the car you can put them back on and the car will present like new. Definitely tint the windows too, something I've been procrastinating about for years lol.. When it comes to paint protection, you came to the right place. We have a detailing thread here so drop in some time and feel free to ask questions. As the car is new and relatively swirl free, this would be the best time to tackle that aspect. There are so many products on the market for both entry level enthusiasts and pros alike and your choice of the Meguiars hybrid ceramic coating is a good one. The key is to get the paint squeaky clean before you apply it so it bonds better. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully and you can't go wrong. Here's a link use can use for this. (just ignore the "black car" bit.) https://blackcarshine.com/7-tips-for-using-meguiars-hybrid-ceramic-wax-on-a-black-car/
  9. Hi Alex, The main purpose of those "parking sensors" are primarily for a parking situation. The proximity of the sensor is such that it is designed to monitor your distance from any object to the left or right sides of the vehicle. Frontal situations are not included unfortunately. If you look at where the sensors are located they are basically trained at the corners only and will only detect objects in the specific region. If it had 4 parking sensors, two corner, two front, then this would of course do what you're asking about. Not sure why Toyota do this either. Perhaps ask them on the next service. My Aurion has the exact same design too. Two corner angulated sensors. Hope that explains it for you. Cheers mate
  10. Yeah, I know ! I got smoked by a Prius one time in my Hilux dual cab. That was embarrassing 🤪
  11. Umm, not sure how to answer that as I haven't sampled other models, but I can say that the controls feel nice and decisive. The climate controls are a soft touch button arrangement but everything else has a nice click to them, like the power windows, onboard computer etc. They rarely go bad. Everything works perfectly. The overall build quality was much better back then too, I have to say, being a 90's car and it shows. It's definitely a keeper.
  12. Leather doesn't breathe actually, unless yours has perforated leather. It's just the nature of the skin regardless of coating. If you're experiencing sweating, it's more likely due to the high ambient temp/humidity where the A/C has to work extra hard to combat but can't. My M3 doesn't have anything on the leather and I have experienced a bit of the old sweating down the back occasionally. I like to place a large towel over the seat on extended drives. This helps a lot and gets a little protection from the sun thrown in too. One of my favourite things to do too. There's a huge sense of satisfaction having the wheels cleaned inside and out and then coated. This will definitely help keep the brake dust from biting into the surface. You won't need to use wheel cleaner either. Doing so will degrade the coating much quicker and it's not necessary. Just a good dose of snow foam, or a very mild all purpose cleaner. Agitate with a wheel woollie/ microfibre cloth combo or similar and your golden.
  13. Totally agree. Especially on cold start ups and having to engage pursuit shortly thereafter, the extended wear on the big ends and rod bearings due to low oil temps, loss of oil pressure equalling the potential for spun bearings. Ouchy !!
  14. Technology can be fickle, and some Bluetooth protocols don't play nice together. It could be an outdated Bluetooth protocol or your phone's firmware needs updating to iron out the bugs. It's worth looking into.
  15. Usually the threaded section at the bottom of the stud is not used which is why I suggested the vice grips. I wouldn't attack the working part of the thread. It's common sense right ? The two nuts will work a charm too, of course.
  16. The studs are removable. Just use a pair of vice grips and gently unscrew them. Anticlockwise rotation. There may be thread lock on the threads, but they should rotate. Vice Grips.webp
  17. Very cool song Ash. Some countries could use some happiness right now..

I mean Stash..
  19. You can't go wrong with a Camry mate. Best peace of mind you'll ever get with modern car ownership. I'm not a big fan of the E brake, but we're stuck with it unfortunately. The rest of the magnificence makes up for it and some. Take good care of it, do plenty of oil changes and it will last a very long time. Cheers mate
  20. Hi Linda and firstly welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the theft from your vehicle. Are you sure that all four doors were locked ? Sometimes the central locking doesn't behave like it should and one door can stay open. Was there any signs of a forced entry ? Typically, thieves will just wander through car parks and try opening car doors at random and sometimes they get lucky. Me personally, I wouldn't leave any valuables in my car, even my house keys when I plan to leave it parked for a prolonged period. The more sophisticated thieves will duplicate your key fob with a capture device and clone a key fob of their own to then be able to gain entry and be able to drive it away. That's if you have the push start smart entry system of course. But I doubt anyone would go to the effort of doing that just to be able to open and pilfer stuff from the glove box. These were stupid kids who have had some practice with door lock mechanisms and know how to use a bit a wire down the window or they just had some dumb luck. Dash cams are a pretty good deterrent if you park your vehicle in a sitting duck car park. I don't think car alarms work any more as nobody tends to take notice or be bothered to look. It's usually a quick entry, grab and walk away before nobody is any the wiser. Don't hold your breath with the Police doing anything either. If it was a smart phone does it have the "find my device" option ?? This is pretty useful. I wish you well Linda. All the best
  21. I have had this problem in the past and decided against using daytime running lights. It is an oversight by the manufacturers for sure and it's not just limited to Toyota. There should be an adjustment to cater for this, but I never bothered to investigate it any further to be honest. I also wonder if there is possibly a setting in the system's computer that they can enable but you'd have to ask Toyota if this is an option, otherwise it's a trip to the local auto electrician to install a by pass switch. I hope you get to figure this out. Let us know how you go. All the best
  22. Another great band. Chrissy Amphlett. We lost her too young too. Such a shame. "Sleeping Beauty" was my favourite song. She was a tough woman. A survivor. Yes he was. I remember him vividly from his stint on "Our House" too. Such a great talent on and off the stage. I was very sad on hearing of his death. We all knew he loved to fly and his helicopter just didn't make it one day. R.I.P. Shirley Strachan.
