Actually corey i told u i would chat to the PM about this ;) :P ;) :P ;)

Posted

I'll give it a go on the weekend if it's cheaper than the non ethanol blended optimax.

Posted

So is it a natural Ethanol blend or is it a Synthetic Ethanol blend????????

Bill if u reading this jump on msn so i can send u the 2zz-ge tech notes!!!!!! :D

Posted

One thing that concerns me with it is this:

Optimax is made up of 95RON Premium + additives to make it reach it's 98RON, so is Optimax extreme 95RON Premium + additives + Ethanol ? How Clean is the fuel ?

Posted
well that counts bill and myself out, as the power FC wont like the ethenol blend :(

Any car that has been tuned to a specific fuel wont get benefits from uing it :(

Only trust Mobil Synergy!

YEAH !!!! Mobil Synergy 8000.

my car just doesn't run the same on BP, Shell or Caltex

Just to give it a go, I've just gone out and filled 40 bucks of the stuff.

The power can be immediatly felt but its different.

Its hard to explain, but like when u go from normal unleaded to a 98 RON like ultimate or synergy the car feels like it can rev harder and more solid.

But with this stuff, it seems to accelerate as good or slightly better than ultimate but it just feels... for lack of better words, thin.

if your car isn't designed to run on 100RON fuel, it'll most likely not do anything noticeable. In fact the higher octane fuel will probably lower the power output of the engine. Getting 100 ontane fuel is only going to help noticeably if you car is designed for it. don't expect higher mileage with this fuel either.

and yeah, it does have 5% ethanol... that stuff corrosive over time, but only in high concentrates i think.

but those guys with the unichips should be able to re-tune the car to run the new fuel.

here are the list of locations (melbourne) that was emailed to me:

F010 - COLES EXPRESS BURWOOD VIC 16-Nov

F321 - COLES EXPRESS ASHBURTON VIC 15-Nov

F488 - COLES EXPRESS RICHMOND VIC 15-Nov

F537 - COLES EXPRESS CHELTENHAM VIC 15-Nov

G304 - COLES EXPRESS ST ALBANS VIC 15-Nov

G687 - COLES EXPRESS FERNTREE GULLY VIC 15-Nov

G791 - COLES EXPRESS VERMONT SOUTH VIC 15-Nov

i may give this fuel a go next if i happen to run out of fuel in those areas

How much was it per litre??

anycar built before 2002 apparently aren't suppose to be using it ..

$1.24 a litre at a station (Richmond) near the central city area here in Melbourne.

actually, running the higher octane fuel will cause the engine to knock less, which will allow the ECU to keep the timing advanced for longer before it starts to retard it, which = more power.

Posted

That's what I thought, all engines benefit from a higher octane fuel, but those tuned specifically to run on it will achieve the best gains with it.

Posted

This is how i see it. If your car was designed to run on 91 RON and the car retains standard ignition and CR, the higher octane fuel may actually lower the power output of the engine. Most higher octane fuels have a lower calorific value meaning less energy can be extracted per litre of fuel. The higher octane number only becomes a benefit if the standard fuel is detonating in which case the benefit of the higher compression/timing advance outways the loss in calorific value. Getting 100 octane fuel is only going to be a benefit if the car is designed to run on it.

I have put some in today at G304 - COLES EXPRESS ST ALBANS VIC 15-Nov.

Problem is, its not cheaper than BP Ultimate, Synergy 8000 or the original Shell Optimax. Cost is the same! Should have been 5% cheaper  .
