  1. This tyre size calculator should prove to be handy for doing comparison sizes. https://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/ I have noticed that design of the Continental tyres may afford more rim protection. https://www.continental-tyres.com.au/car/tyres/car/summer-plt/contisportcontact5
  2. Sounds like what I have also bought and hope to get the same worthwhile results. Also bought halogen bulbs just in case the LED ones have a short life.
  3. I estimate fuel savings of about $700 p.a. Facor in a battery life of 10 years plus the CVT possibly having to be replaced then it just balances out. As a definite used car buyer [until I win Lotto], I am avoiding vehicles with CVT and battery packs. This is what is coming in the near future and will certainly cause me to re-think my current preferences/biases. https://www.autoblog.com/2018/02/28/toyota-thermally-efficient-engine/
  4. As a follow up, I fitted the GE Megalight Ultra 130 headlight bulbs Saturday. I thought that it should ideally be a 5 minute job and it was about 5 minutes a side. I did the driver's side first because of more room for small enough hands. Fortunately I did not have to remove the battery or fuse holder on the passenger side for extra working room. Main issue was working out where to push down on the clip for the electrical lead to the bulb. The bulbs being replaced ended up being Philips Long Life bulbs which have a specification of 1350 lumens. As an impromtu review or comparison, I did not find any obvious improvement in urban driving except the light is a bit whiter [as expected] and I think the passenger side has a bit more light. I did not see any dramatic improvement of more light on the road and further distance. Maybe it is a placebo effect but I am more noticing reflective road signs ahead of the main headlight beam. At this stage, the only conclusion that I am prepared to make is that both the Philips and GE bulbs must be a lot better than the standard OEM bulbs. Next step is to give the headlights a good clean [not really needed] and replace the side lights with a whiter light. Another thought is to go for a night drive on a secondary road without street lighting as a further test.
  5. Understand where you are coming from; you wanting to save brakes ready for emergency where you are having to drive or brake like hell to get out of the way of a runaway truck. Anyway best bit of fun on last interstate trip was driving down Cunningham's Gap [near to Warwick Qld] no traffic ahead and just using gear changes. CVT is all about fuel economy [so I currently understand] Maybe with future developments, you can hope for a sportsmatic version to shift between preset points. https://www.autoblog.com/2018/02/28/toyota-thermally-efficient-engine/
  6. Following eBay listing by AutoBarn may be applicable. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Haigh-Weather-Stripping-3-4-x-1-8m/321892802837?hash=item4af24e6115:g:v7cAAOSw~bFWHV2m
  7. I am sure that you have to remove the pillar trims first. Have a read of the posts in this thread. https://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/35500-how-to-take-off-rear-parcel-shelf/
  8. Go and re-read the article. It mentions an additional cover plate for the idler pulley. This is something that I have not had to do. However, I have given the belt a few sprays of de-watering fluid. Not exactly positive whether that is recommended.
  9. This article may also be of some interest. Toyota Squeaking noise from engine compartment.doc
  10. Check whether your Toyota is affected by this recall using the following link. http://recalls.toyota.com.au/#/ I used a Transport Registration Check to obtain the VIN. Following link is for Qld registered vehicles https://www.service.transport.qld.gov.au/checkrego/application/VehicleSearch.xhtml?dswid=2894
  11. I have used Sikaflex 227 or similar liquid polyurethane to reinforce the engine mounts on other vehicles. Still on the to do list for my Aurions. Main issue is that when you open the tube, it needs to be used very quickly within the next day or so before it hardens in the tube. http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Sikaflex-Adhesive-227-150mL/284175
  12. Attached documents should be of assistance. The tensioner is higher up on the right hand side after you have removed the wheel and access panel. Allen key works out well for holding the tensioner in position. 2GR FE VVTi Oil Line Replacement Tutorial.doc
  13. I would expect that it is the standard heat exchange fitted to the bottom of the radiator. This eBay listing appears to have some useful/relevant information. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toyota-Hilux-Automatic-Transmission-Oil-Cooler-Kit-05-15-by-Fuious-Performance-/151079019786 I would select the vehicle with the highest towing braked specification and setup with a transmission cooler.
  14. Unfortunately, no suggestions except to select a good quality heavy duty one.
  15. Perhaps instead on replacing the air box, you could use a plastic joiner of similar with araldite or Sikaflex to seal and hold it in position. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10mm-Straight-Plastic-Hose-Pipe-Tube-Connector-Joiner-Air-Water-Fuel-Car-Home/270860546798?hash=item3f108bf2ee:g:~V8AAMXQAx9RJBGS
  16. Have a read of this thread. https://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/55315-rear-brake-light-unstuck/
  17. Yes, particularly if you are going to be towing that weight. I would also be inclined to also change the transmission fluid to a full synthetic which has a better temperature range. ATF Life and Temperature Relationship.docx Synthetic Transmission Fluid.doc Toyota Camry ATF Transmission Fluid Flush.docx I have recently done a transmission fluid flush and change of ATF to full synthetic [on the latest project car which will be used to carry 2 adults and groceries]. For many years, I have been using XADO additives to the drive train, mainly for preventative maintenance reasons. I have just updated my eBay Watch List with the following: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/XADO-NEW-Revitalizant-EX-120-Automatic-Transmissions-TUBE-9-ml-SUPER-PRICE/262831254273?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/XADO-Gel-Revitalizant-EX-120-Automatic-Transmissions-SUPER-PRICE/120961238644?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649
  18. I am sure many Forum members will be interested in your updates on the new 2018 Camry particularly on an ongoing basis e.g. quarterly. One thing to read car reviews but much better for a review/testimonial from an actual owner. Maybe do your posts in the Member's ride Forum so you have a handy record.
  19. Interested to hear from other members any tricks or tips for removing spark plugs. One useful tip from a YouTube video was to use a length of rubber tubing to grip the spark plug which makes it easier to remove from a deep recess in the cylinder head. My main issue was trying to remove a long life iridium plug which has probably been fitted for about 5 years. I was only able to turn the plug about a 1/4 turn before it became stuck or very hard to turn. I used similar to WD-40 spray as a penetrating lubricant. After waiting a minute or so, I then tightened and loosened the spark plug but it was still hard to turn. Obviously not wanting to strip the thread in the alloy cylinder head, I then warmed the engine for a few minutes and checked YouTube for some hints. After turning off the engine, I gave the spark plug another good spray and waited a short time. Spark plug then turned a lot easier and was able to be removed.
  20. Have a read of this thread about the timimg chain for the 2GR-FE engine. Certainly agree on Importance to have regular oil changes. Good idea [for your consideration] to check the timing belt tensioner at your next major service just for peace of mind that all is ok. https://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/28693-timing-belt/ More food for thought about the lifespan of the timing chain for the 2GR-FE engine. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/323-corolla-10th-gen-2nd-gen-matrix-engine-transmission-forum/395971-timing-chain-replacment.html
  21. Good indication that the battery may not last much longer although I have read some internet posts of car batteries lasting up to 10 years. I have bought a multi-stage battery charger to help rejuvenate batteries. I also have bought the larger size Century Battery 75D23L MF instead of the 55D23L MF for my Aurion but have not noticed any difference for engine starting between 620 CCA and 540 CCA.
  22. I am planning upon replacing the front W5W parking light bulbs with LED bulbs. Possibly also the door light bulbs with upgraded halogen bulbs. It looks like I will have to remove the plastic inner wheel guard to gain easy access to the headlight connections. Is this so? I also want a whiter light so I have ordered on eBay both white light halogen bulbs and canbus error free LED bulbs with 10 5630 SMDs. Has anyone had experience with fitting this type of LED bulb?
  23. The Aurion is already a sleeper car; quite overlooked. If you want a faster Aurion upgrade to the 2018 model. Otherwise, look at the Lexus models with a turbocharged V6 or V8. Better still, be happy with what you have because having a family is not an inexpensive undertaking.
  24. Has anyone fitted Philips X-treme Vision 100% halogen headlight bulbs? For some time, I have had the upgraded Osram Night Breaker Unlimited series as a preferred choice or benchmark because of stated 110% more light on the road [than a standard OEM bulb], up to 35 metres extra projected beam distance for safer distance and lifetime. Recently, I decided to review headlight bulbs to confirm my preferred choice after noticing a few new bulbs had appeared on the PowerBulbs website. Attached document contains the URLs and extracts of various latest headlight bulb comparative tests. After a recent storm which knocked out the local street lighting and traffic lights, I have decided to immediately replace the existing halogen headlight bulbs rather than wait for them to expire. Unfortunately the Philips XtremeVision +130 bulbs are not currently available in the H11 fitting. Lifetime of 400 to 450 hrs is expected and Lumens =1500. I have purchased the top performing GE Megalight Ultra 130 which is currently available in the H11 fitting. Sourced them on the UK eBay website because https://www.powerbulbs.com/ was out of stock . Unfortunately, I found out later that the expected lifetime is only 250 hrs. Afterwards, I also discovered via eBay search that Philips XtremeVision 100% bulb is available in the H11 fitting. Lumens = 1350. Lifespan should be similar at 400 to 450 hrs. In hindsight, I may very well have purchased the Philips product for the longer lifetime. Best Halogen Headlight Bulbs to Buy.doc
