  1. Which Penrite full synthetic product did you buy? From the Penrite website, their ATF LV [Full Syn] is backwards compatible with Dextron III https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/atf-lv-full-syn
  2. I suspect a bad parking brake adjustment then made worse by just adjusting under the dash. What I do know is that you should release the tension on the foot parking brake by undoing the adjustment nut underneath the dash. Then adjust the parking brake shoes within the brake rotor hub so it still rotates freely without binding. Final step is to then adjust the tension on the foot parking brake by tightening the adjustment nut. At the moment I cannot recall how many clicks there should be before the parking brake engages.
  3. No direct experience with Toyota Celica. I went and had a look at the following Wikepedia URL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Celica On that basis, I highly doubt that there are any cost-effective modifications. My first Toyota was a 1989 Toyota Corolla SX seca with the 4AGE 100kw engine. Still miss that car and surprisingly I have seen some of the later RV Corollas but they were in quite beaten up condition. These Corollas would have a better power to weight ratio for club motorsport. Reckon the Celica will be ok as a sedate daily driver.
  4. My guess is that the throttle body and/or idle air control [IAC] valve need to be cleaned. If your vehicle has a mass airflow [MAF] sensor, then check and spray clean with the correct sensor cleaning spray. A Google search and watching some YouTube videos for the abovementioned items will give you a good idea of what is involved.
  5. Keep forgetting to release the foot parking brake. Most passenger vehicle drivers are more used to a hand brake and visually checking the hand brake is in the released down position. Lit handbrake indicator on the dashboard more indicates that the handbrake was not totally released. Even after driving the Aurion for a few years, I still occassionally forget about the foot parking brake. Mentally berate myself for putting undue wear on the rear parking brake shoes.
  6. Parking brake should hold both forward and backward. If it is not holding backward, use foot brake to hold car in position then reapply the foot parking brake more firmly. For some weeks, I have been intending to readjust the foot parking brake from inside the cabin underneath the dash.
  7. A few months ago, there was a genuine Aurion TRD located in Sydney available on eBay for around/less than $10,000. You should be able to get an Aurion needing mechanical repairs quite cheaply for less than $4000. Hope you can get the TRD professionally repaired [no short cut dodged brothers budget throw together] for less than that figure. A few years, I bought a 1994/5 Honda Prelude [new price $55,000] from its second owner for $500. Previous owners' dream car but now someone else's renovation project. A vehicle that is on my current radar is the Kia Stinger with its turbocharged V6 plus the 2018 Toyota Camry V6. I am more likely to buy either of these vehicles in 10 years time than a 20 year old supercharged/turbocharged vehicle.
  8. After removing the O2 sensor, spray the lower body with either carb/throttle body cleaner or brake cleaner. Then wipe the sensor. Repeat if necessary. Somewhat similar to cleaning a spark plug.
  9. I have never had to rebuild brake calipers so was interested to read the following article [with supporting photos] even though it is for a motorbike. https://jalopnik.com/heres-how-to-rebuild-your-brake-calipers-1825874839?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=referral
  10. I bought the Invisible Glass brand products today on special at SuperCheap. I applied the water repellent to both front and rear windscreens. Surprisingly, we had some afternoon showers so the product got put to the test sooner than expected. Actually quite happy with the water beading as expected and improved visibility. Early days so do not know how long before a reapplication will be required. Now thinking [after the event] whether another brand e.g. Rain-X produces superior results and worth paying extra. http://search.supercheapauto.com.au/search?af= pagetype%3aproducts&lbc=supercheapauto-au&method=and&p=Q&ts=custom&uid=992980955&w=invisible glass&isort=price
  11. Stud pattern is 5/114.3mm. https://www.bobjane.com.au/choose-tyres-and-wheels-for-your-vehicle/ If you are concerned about fuel economy, far better to check your tyre pressures and make certain that your vehicle is well serviced. I have increased my tyre pressure from 36psi to 38psi on my Aurion which would be similar weight configuration to your Avalon.
  12. Just read this article about electronic adaptive shocks coming in 2019. https://newatlas.com/ford-electronic-fox-shocks/54771/?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=referral
  13. I can foresee the possibility when only self-drive autonomous vehicles will be able to travel on certain prescribed roads or highways. Remaining drivers/chauffeurs will then be highly skilled or professionally qualified similar to aircraft pilots subject to regular health checks etc. Then, when we are in our rocking chairs waiting for the grim reaper [or angels] we will be moaning into our herbal teas about the good old days of when cars had steering wheels.
  14. Just came across an article about motor oils, myths and a good explanation of viscosity. https://jalopnik.com/heres-the-difference-between-synthetic-and-normal-motor-1826240884?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=referral
  15. Active Suspension System developed by Bose and recently sold to ClearMotion now headed for production. http://www.thedrive.com/news/20996/the-crazy-bose-magic-carpet-car-suspension-system-is-finally-headed-for-production
  16. For myself, it is traction control and electronic stability control. Currently, I have got autonomous emergency braking [AEB] under serious consideration. Reckon that by the time I join the geriatric driver ranks, insurance companies will have AEB as a “preferred” requirement.
  17. Without breaking the glass, press firmly in the centre of the mirrors and perhaps also on the four corners of the mirror to try and reseat the mirror into the plastic retaining clips of the housing behind the mirror. If that does not work, plan upon a visit to your local wreckers.
  18. Main item I would be looking at is the rubber seat between the spring and the strut housing. Next item I would be investigating is any foreign objects e.g. stone/gravel caught up in the spring seat. Just for something extra to do, consider giving the rubber seat a spray with silicone spray.
  19. I had a clunking noise in the rear of my Honda Prelude [now sold]. Spent a lot of time trying to track down this issue. Particularly checked the rear struts which I had swapped over from a parts car looking for loose retaining nuts. Gave up then months later it became very obvious; broken rear sway bar. I am guessing that the bar partially cracked and flexed enough to make a clunking noise before finally cracking all the way through.
  20. Just read the following article on Quora about high octane fuel. Makes a lot of sense to use the high octane fuel when recommended by the car manufacturer. https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-high-octane-fuel-and-low-octane-fuel
  21. Just got email from SuperCheap Auto for Club Members 35% discount off Penrite Oils 18-20 May. Penrite LV ATF 4 litre $29.24 discount price too attractive to let go. If you are not a member, you can join in store and get the discount prices applied immediately. I did another online order for 4 with local store pick-up to ensure I did not miss out. Also applied a $9 credit from my previous purchase.
  22. Not enough detail in the article except that it was "at speed" and it happened in peak hour on the [interstate highway] I-10 in Phoenix. In this accident situation, the sedan shape with a boot section is a significant safety factor. In comparison, a hatchback would have probably crumpled up to the driver's seat.
  23. Attached YouTube video recommends removing the ecu fuse rather than disconnecting the car battery terminals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HN4-iTKTI2U
  24. Did I previously mention safety? Following URL reminded me of this importance. http://amp.timeinc.net/thedrive/news/20852/toyota-dealership-displays-2018-toyota-camry-that-got-rear-ended-by-a-semi-truck?utm_source=quora&utm_medium=referral
