so if it increases handling therefore wouldn't that decrease aerodynamics and 0-100 time becomes less

(soz i am new to all this modding stuff)

It has nothing to do with those two factors. Only comes into play when one side of the car experiences more loading than the other (which is what you get when you turn).

For reference:

Strut bar:

Rear Sway bar:

thx what do u say u learn something new every day

Is it not advisable to run the struts with lowered springs and the original shocks? That is to say, will the struts put extra strain on shocks already under extra strain due to lowered springs?

From an idealistic point of view, in the first place, it would not be advisable to use lowering springs on the original shocks that were not made for use with lowering springs. But things are never always ideal, so then it is fine to say that use your stock shocks with lowering springs. This is all from the safety standpoint due to the way a spring and shock combo works.

Adding in an upgraded sway bar on top of that isn't going to have any further negative effects than that already existing. If anything, it may actually have the potential to reduce those negative effects slightly.

Thanks Daz. This is exactly my opinion as well.

Sorry to bump an old topic, but since I have a bit of extra cash floating around I finally decided to do this. However I am not confident in my ability to install and I also lack anywhere to do it, since my car is parked on the street. Does anyone from Melbourne know a trust worthy place to have this installed?

PayPal has a deal going at the moment offering 20% off any eBay purchase (to a maximum discount of $100), provided you pay with PayPal. I'm thinking of buying some Ultra Racing bars off eBay to take advantage of this offer: Ultra Racing on eBay

Two questions:

1. Is there any reason that it would be a bad idea to get these off eBay rather than from the Aussie retailer?

2. Most people I've spoken to only seem to get the front strut bar and rear sway bar... I'm thinking of getting the front lower bar as well. Has anyone else fitted this? Is it just a waste of money??

Mainly just shipping time. If you purchased it in Aus, you can get it within a couple/few days. Less waiting, more fun

Nathan (Tofuboi) had fitted one. I can't remember if he still has it on or not.

Personally, I believe it is a waste of money unless your car is always at the track. It won't provide as much gain during day to day driving as a rear or front sway bar would provide. I wouldn't be surprised if after fitting it, you couldn't tell the difference. On top of that, this 4 point brace sits low. Be prepared to scrape it on things.

If I were you. I would not fit the front lower. Especially if it's a Sportivo or higher, or has been lowered at some point.

Wanna know why?

The lowest point on the car is about 4-6 inches from the ground if you fit it. Not even that! I had it scraping when entering driveways, I had a rock hit it doing 100km/h and completely ruined it. Much carnage from it.

After I took it off it was warped, scratched to buggery and much more.

While it DID improve the stability of the vehicle during cornering. The cons definately outweighed the pros, by a long mile. As Daryl (DJKOR) said, if the car's staying 100% on the track, that's fine. If not, don't go for it.

Thanks guys. Yeh... I can wait. For front strut and rear sway it's about $344 off eBay (depending on exchange rates and including the discount) compared to $575 from the Aussie retailer. Are they easy to install though? I would imagine the front strut would be a piece of cake, but what about the rear sway?

... but what about the rear sway?

Put the rear up on stands (actually on my unlowered Sportivo, I did it with all 4 wheels on the ground ), then take a wheel off. After that, it's a piece of cake. Taking off the rear exhaust pipe mount before the y-pipe certainly helps as well. The rest you figure out when you get to it.

All it needs is a little patience and the ability to vent out any frustration.

Can you please provide a link to the PayPal 20% off offer? I clicked on the link to CTECH, however, cannot see the PayPal offer.

Thanks in advance.

It's an invite only offer. Certain PayPal members are sent a code that enables them to obtain this discount when they go through the checkout. Unfortunately it's not one of their offers that everyone gets.

you can fit the rear in without taking the wheel off.... aye daryl!

albeit, its a LOT harder... its possible! hahahaha

That sucks... I was going to buy both front and rear bars straight away with the 20% discount... I'll probably still buy them in the next few days given all the positive reports of people that have them installed.

Thanks for clearing that up DJ.

LOL. That sure is correct. I wasn't left with much choice after shearing the end off that tool for your wheel nuts (for those unaware of the joke). Too much torque and no action.

Does anybody know whether this PayPal code can be used for multiple transactions by different users?

I think it is based on your account considering you will be logged into PayPal when you enter it (or if it applies automatically without code). Only one way to find out and that would be to try it.

The code is "CMDAY20", but the thing is, you can only enter it once the item is purchased.

No, if you've been sent the invite you can only use it once and it must be your own PayPal account.

So... anyone keen to help install some Ultra Racing bars???? :)

Done it 4 times already. Give it a go yourself firstly. It's not hard to do.

Thanks - I'll try the code when I purchase the UR Bars in the next day or so. It's a bonus if it works, otherwise, I am still happy to pay the full price for the performance gains... :D

Haha, I've been reading through a bit. And it looks like this is what I need to reduce body roll. But can I ask, how can a bar just bolted on without any other special things reduce body roll?

I really really want one of these. I hate body roll, in ANY car. It's a disgusting feeling. I love the firm feel around corners like my bro in laws sportivo camry.

Today I was busting to go to the toilet and I was taking corners in really fast to get home and the body roll is disgusting to say the least. Ride comfort is good but roll I want to reduce heaps.

Any help boys? This could be my first mod because I like mod's that will improve things in the car, not much into the eye candy :P

from my own research into this mod, you should feel more of a reduction in body roll when installing a Rear Sway Bar. Front strut brace AFAIK will help with turn ins and also a little bit with body roll, but the rear sway bar makes the biggest difference.. can someone confirm/deny this?

Don't expect it to reduce heaps. It WILL reduce it, but don't expect it to become a sports car with just that alone.

To better understand how a simple rear sway bar works in reducing body roll, you have to think a bit more complex. Now this is something I can explain in person fairly well, and because I am crap with written instructions, please be patient in trying to get what I'm saying.

Firstly imagine a length of metal bar shaped like this: |____| . Now in the position it is on the screen, imagine holding it with your left hand around the lower piece that is marked red. Now imagine then pulling up or pushing down on the right side piece (blue) with your right hand. You can then imagine that the left side piece (green) is going to move in the same way.

Now in that sense, the red piece is attached to the underside of the car on mounts that let it rotate (much like when you grab it with one hand). The other blue and green pieces are attached at their ends to the suspension on each side of the car. Now when the wheels on each side move up and down together, the sway bar rotates along the red piece with both the blue and green sides moving up and down together. It is not being used in that case.

However, when the wheel on one side moves more than the other, that above point I said to imagine comes into play. As a result, if one side moves up for example more than the other, the bar will try to make the other side move up in the same fashion. This is how you reduce body roll.

A thicker bar will be stronger in trying to get the other side to move so this is why upgrading to the larger Ultra Racing RSB makes a difference to body roll.

Absolutely correct. The front strut brace is there to help reduce chassis flex. It doesn't have much impact on body roll, but it can give a feel of improvement on turn in by that reduction in flex.
