The work is all Steven mate. I just supplied some bits.

Sounds like Andrew is lacking some iron in his diet

Just to prove how ghetto it is, behold my MAF mount!

OMG I love it mate!

Now I know what you mean when you said you had to get it done.

In a worst case scenario, I have two spare airbox tops if you need it.

Not much today, just decided on a color combination for my new brakes (thought red would be a bit too try-hard considering they aren't true "performance" brakes)

Behold, my ghetto heat shield!

Not fully shielded from the engine bay but at least it offers some protection, plus it should help the factory cold air intake a little too.

Steve's Custom Engineering.

Mick's Backyard Ghetto Mechanical

The Viking's Supercharger Hut

KorvNguyen's Car Detailing

I think we can start something here. You'll need to place an order with Steve.

Looks really good Steve; not even ghetto looking at all.

Mate they looks georgeous!! i soo want that look :D

Nice heat shield, looks like it was made really well, and should be quite functional as well!

How did you go about making it if you don't mind sharing?

Thanks for the comments guys.

I made it by shaping ABS plastic into shape using a heat gun and an ABS/Acetone mix, using edging strip as a finishing touch.

Test fitted my new brake setup whilst I was replacing the standard rotors today, like how well they fill out the factory wheel. Yes I'm aware that's the wrong rotor for that side btw.

Also big thanks to Andrew357 for lending me his old brakes to get me out of trouble in time for the nationals! :toast:

Feeling pretty chuffed at the moment, at the QLD National meet Show 'n Shine I walked away with Best Interior and Best Overall! :toast:

Will post up some pics when they become available by blatantly hot-linking. Big cheers to 51DER and Big Pete who took plenty of pics over the weekend, as well as DJKOR, Mick Wheels and SILVERBULLIT who ran/organised the event plus everyone else who chipped in when needed. Look forward to next years Nationals :yahoo:

Dropped by GSL today and picked up a few goodies, namely some TRW Brake fluid and some A1RM pads for the new setup :yahoo:

Still got to wait about 2 weeks though until my brackets get made up by the laser cutters <_<

Down with the flu at the moment and decided to keep myself busy by playing with the car. Below is what I came up with

This is the basic shape of what my new intake snorkel will look like. Essentially it makes full use of what space is available for an over the radiator cold air intake where the factory snorkel is sadly very restrictive (most likely to increase air velocity, however as I'm using a pod filter now bulk air is where it's at).

The mold is shaped to make use of the factory mounting bolts and also to match up to my heat shield exactly. Currently trying to figure out whether ABS or fibreglass would be the best material to tackle this due to the complex shape.

Finally got my new brakes fitted today, which consist on Gen 3 Camry twin piston calipers on custom brackets, RX330 slotted Rotors from RDA, A1RM pads and TRW brake fluid.

After breaking them in I took them up Nebo for a good thrashing, pleased to report I never once got any fade and got fantastic brake response all through UNTIL I suddenly got heavy vibrations through the car. Yep turns out the RDA rotors are the weakest link here and can't keep it together when the going gets tough. Very disappointed with that aspect but they came good once I gave the brakes time to cool.

Overall I'm very happy with the upgrade but am considering changing to DBA 4000s as that's what I previously ran and I never had any problems with them warping under high temps.

thats a shame about the RDAs... :(

mine never had that problem... maybe i dont drive as hard as you though... :P

Actually I was wrong about the RDA's warping. Spoke to a reputable brake specialist, he states that unless I banged it badly the disc is fine and the problem is most likely to be uneven pad material deposits on the brake rotor, especially since I had just finished bedding them in.

His advice was that I should have left them for about 100km after bedding them in before trying Nebo. So now I have to give them a light rub down with non-metallic sandpaper before giving them another serious workout, and them give them another semi-bed in run.
