  1. What a rare find. Now a similar vehicle like that would seriously tempt me enough to buy then rearrange my harem of "mechanical girlfriends".
  2. Oh my goodness. You should have one nice treat coming your way. Day trip to Timaru should be a great bit of fun assuming that main highway is in good condition. Should be a good time now with not too many tourists on the roads. I absolutely love doing an annual road trip from Brisbane QLD to Wagga Wagga NSW; 4500km overall via the Newell Highway which is mainly flat outback country. Only drawback is the ongoing roadworks plus a possible escorted wide load mainly encountered on Sundays.
  3. I cleaned a tool set and found that over the years I had destroyed 2 1/2" universal joint sockets. Initially, I was looking to buy a replacement but ended up buying a set of swivel impact connectors. Apparently they have a maximum 30 degree offset and being chrome molybdenum steel should be a more durable. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1-2-3-8-1-4-Inch-Swivel-Impact-Adapter-Connectors-Universal-Joint-Socket-Black/402176990121
  4. Nothing like a good long highway drive to fully appreciate what a great highway cruiser you have. I have a Oct. 2006 Aurion ATX now with 214K on the odometer. I know that the suspension is well worn but is still firm. I am used to its characteristics of the lean through corners and adapt. New struts and a stiffer rear sway bar will be about $1000 to have better handling. Eventually, instead of spending those $$$, I will start driving my standby Dec. 2008 Aurion Prodigy with 109K on the odometer which also has firm suspension. Both vehicles are fitted with 215/60/R16 tyres. https://www.redbook.com.au/cars/details/2007-toyota-aurion-sportivo-sx6-auto/SPOT-ITM-280092/
  5. At work, I get a few emails about novated leasing of vehicles. Amazed by their special negotiated discounted prices for specific vehicles, like 3-7K discount. I very much doubt if I walked into the dealership for that brand that I could achieve anywhere near their offer. Last time that I was at the local Toyota dealership, they had a listing on display of a number of their discounted specific vehicles.
  6. Exactly why I am highly unlikely to buy a performance vehicle requiring 98 Premium Unleaded. I get enough fuel pump shock just looking at the differences in prices between 91, 95 and 98 Unleaded. It was not that long ago [according to my memory bias] that it was only a 4 cent difference between 91 and 95 then another 6 cents from 95 to 98.
  7. Good upgrade especially for highway driving. Girlfriend is "complaining" about the headlights on the Yaris but she is comparing to later vehicles with HID and LED headlights.
  8. I am getting older and wiser. [supposedly] Precisely why I step to one side and let Karma do her thing. Always best to do the right thing. For this post, it is using the recommended fuel as a minimum for your specific vehicle.
  9. Recent post by a TRD owner in another thread echoed my E10 experience. Economy suffered about 20% with the same octane rating. I have used E10 with 94/95 octane rating when highway driving and gotten approx. same fuel economy as 91 Unleaded Buy the recommended fuel for your vehicle. Incorrect fuel can have unexpected consequences. This was how a past computer games colleague dealt with a serial petrol thief. I think he put methanol in his fuel tank. He reckons that the pistons would have burnt out within a few kms.
  10. If you are really insisting upon genuine new parts then you are after the DENSO branded parts. My starting point is always eBay and listings may mention the manufacturers part number. There is also the Amayama website particularly if you already know the part number. Catalogues are also available on the website. https://www.amayama.com/en What you will most likely find on eBay is that DENSO branded alternator is >$600 and a good quality OEM alternator with a 5 year warranty is <$300. This is the alternator that I purchased for my Aurion in April 2019. I am sure that it ended up being the OEX brand which was listed at higher prices by other sellers. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brand-New-Alternator-fits-Toyota-Aurion-GSV40R-3-5L-Petrol-2GR-FE-10-06-03-12/111372269393?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 This eBay seller has the following alternators that should fit your vehicle. Always best to check with the seller first. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Brand-New-Alternator-fits-Toyota-Camry-ACV40R-2-4L-Petrol-2AZ-FE-07-06-01-12/303003308839?fits=Model%3ACamry|Make%3AToyota&hash=item468c679327:m:mlFFegNSKtbloVhHfKGWSMQ https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Alternator-Fits-Toyota-Camry-ACV36R-ACV40R-2-4L-Petrol-2AZ-FE-2002-2011/292450254928?fits=Model%3ACamry|Make%3AToyota&hash=item441764c050:m:mMJfdgCQ6axXGZ60zyPSzeA
  11. Plenty of emotional pain and anguish then some financial pain to reinforce the lesson. Looks like the air filters have arrived and the girlfriend is going to the Post Office today. If so, add that to the weekend task list.
  12. I would consider checking the tyre pressures. Using the recommended lower tyre pressures will give you a softer ride. Also check the age of the tyres. If they are original then they are 13 years old and should be replaced even if they have only done 22000 km.
  13. What is also annoying is being stopped at traffic lights and the vehicle behind stops really close behind. It is one time that I am paying closer attention to what is happening in the rear view mirror. We learn that most of the time impatience has adverse effects. It certainly demonstrates to normal patient drivers that the other driver has gained little or nothing. Karma [or big grin on my face] is being able to drive past them while they are stuck at the lights in a slower moving lane.
  14. Precisely why I have never bought 1 litre containers of engine oil etc. Good to see Castrol is available in 6 litre and the price difference to 5 litre is only a few dollars.
  15. This is the latest oil special from Super Cheap Auto. A 7 Day deal ending 31st May.2020 40% discount off Castrol engine oils and limit of 2 per customer. Following is 2 of the specials. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/castrol-castrol-magnatec-engine-oil-10w-40-6-litre/546182.html?cgid=7day-sale#main=&prefn1=srgBrand&prefv1=Castrol&j=4446502&sfmc_sub=25368615&sub=205970513_SCA01_CRP&l=333_HTML&u=91493363&mid=6010680&jb=58&utm_source=email-subscriber&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=sca-au-2020-wk48-7dd-cc&start=2 https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/castrol-castrol-edge-engine-oil---5w-40-sn-6-litre/545709.html?cgid=7day-sale#main=&prefn1=srgBrand&prefv1=Castrol&j=4446502&sfmc_sub=25368615&sub=205970513_SCA01_CRP&l=333_HTML&u=91493363&mid=6010680&jb=58&utm_source=email-subscriber&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=sca-au-2020-wk48-7dd-cc&start=16
  16. Not really. If this was a different Forum then the advice would be very pointed about what not to do. Anyway, I refuelled the girlfriend's Yaris Saturday morning and her car is what we use for going shopping on weekends.
  17. Now we have the internet. Good information available for what the different error codes mean. Plenty of YouTube videos show how to reset various warnings and CEL. Years ago I was looking at a Honda Accord with an airbag warning light. After reading up on how to reset this warning light which involved using a paperclip method, I decided to give it a miss rather than mistakingly having an airbag suddenly deploy.
  18. Guess whose credit card she used. lol Now that is real fuel economy.
  19. The ex had more finesse with the accelerator than myself so could get better fuel economy which I could not match. Guess that I am too impatient to get up to the speed limit. . Certainly have to agree about that trap of using the cruise control on hilly roads. I have learnt to override the cruise control with the foot on the accelerator. Currently have 95 ULP plus some Fuel Doctor additive in the tank to help clean the fuel injectors and the fuel economy.
  20. It is a case of comparing apples with apples and oranges with oranges. 200KW vs 241KW. Unleaded ULP vs Premium ULP. Those fuel economy figures demonstrate why you will be giving that Ethanol blend a big miss. I have a 2006 Aurion ATX which would have had 190K when I last did an interstate trip October 2018 from Brisbane to Wagga Wagga via the Newell Highway. I do remember getting about 7.8L per 100Km cruising at 100 kph with the A/C on max on 91ULP. In NSW, I then cruised at 110 kph and achieved <8.5L per 100Km on some trip sections. Not sparing the foot when overtaking did impact the fuel economy so I started to note how many times that happened. I am hoping to be able to do a repeat of this interstate trip by early November 2020 in the ATX which will have approx. 220K on the odometer. I will update and compare my fuel economy results with previous 2017 and 2018 results. It is probably more a case of regular maintenance and any impact upon fuel economy.
  21. I think that SuperCheapAuto charges $15 to read the error code of a Check Engine Light. Rather than pay, I ended up buying a basic Autel model which was probably $35 at that time. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AU-Autel-AL539B-Engine-Car-OBD2-Diagnostic-Tool-Fault-Code-Reader-Scanner-Ford/333297455214?hash=item4d9a13906e:m:mMzoJB47f-VsCdTQ6XvibyQ I have used this diagnostic tool so many times since finally getting one. Still kicking myself for not buying this tool many years ago. At $15 per reading, I have enough "savings" to justify buying an immediate replacement or upgraded model.
  22. When I am researching a vehicle, I mainly start looking at 2 websites, RedBook and Australian Car Reviews. https://www.redbook.com.au/cars/details/2009-toyota-rav4-cv6-auto-4x4-my09/SPOT-ITM-279835/ http://australiancar.reviews/reviews.php#!content=guide&make=Toyota&model=RAV4&gen=917&pno=0 I would also select the V6 3.5L RAV4 because I absolutely love that engine. It is prone to oil sludge but that just means it needs regular oil and filter changes with quality oils. Another similar vehicle that you could consider is the Toyota Kluger.
  23. Passenger side LED bulb failed within 2 weeks of being fitted. As they came with a 5 year warranty claim, I have contacted the eBay seller who has responded wanting a YouTube video. Replied today so waiting to see what happens next. Thanks to the girlfriend, these are the YouTube videos so you can see me demonstrating that the bulb does not work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4cCpB1rmkw&t=43s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMK8d4vmWX0
  24. There are cheaper sets available on eBay but only come with a 1 year warranty. As the girlfriend says "not for me". I am expecting that these coils being offered with a lifetime warranty have been constructed with quality materials and the expected lifespan of the part will occur. https://www.autoblog.com/2016/01/14/how-long-does-an-ignition-coil-last/ Seeing that the listing did not state Made in USA or mention a specific trademark name, I will assume that they are manufactured in China and quality controlled. As you have asked, I will check them when they arrive and confirm that they are performing to expectations.
  25. All finalised with that eBay transaction. Coils were returned Thursday 21.05.2020 and I received a refund much quicker than expected. After some more searching on eBay, ended up buying another set with Lifetime warranty from the same USA seller that I purchased from in 2018. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/6-Ignition-Coils-Replacement-for-Camry-Rav4-Avalon-Lexus-RX350-ES350-3-5L-UF487/131133586608
