  1. Appreciate the update. Please let us know what tyres you end up getting and if driving through that intersection is now a lot better. I have found that the car always go that bit faster with new tyres probably because the grip is so much improved.
  2. I have been caught out in the past of how badly worn the tyres were. My preference for tyres is a touring type tyre with excellent wet weather/short braking distance. Accordingly, I would be considering Michelin Primacy 4 [New Generation 2018/9] and comparing them to Continental UltraContact 6 . Anyway Bridgestone has a sale on until 30.06.2020 either 25% off or 3+1 free depending upon the tyre.
  3. Good idea particularly as your vehicle is still in warranty. The dealer should be able to also have a closer look at the condition of your tyres and suspension.
  4. You could try contacting this eBay seller. They are claiming to be CV shaft specialists. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toyota-RAV4-SXA10R-SXA11R-2-0L-1994-2000-Front-New-CV-Joint-Drive-Shafts-LH-RH/360512748586?fits=Model%3ARAV+4|Make%3AToyota&hash=item53f03bfc2a:g:bSwAAOSwLZBbvsvp
  5. What it comes down to is that you are driving too hard for those road conditions. Adapt your driving for that particular intersection. I would be more inclined to regard that noise as a warning sign. Different matter if it keeps making that noise all the time.
  6. That sound you heard has most likely come from the differential in the transmission or the torque convertor. As noted in the following URL, I would be checking your tyres and suspension to prevent this from happening. https://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f15/what-axle-tramp-8779.html I have got as new tyres and worn suspension on my Aurion but have not experienced axle tramp. After stopping at traffic lights, I got on the accelerator a little bit too much on a damp road going around a bend but only had to back off the accelerator when the front tyres started to lose grip. How good are your tyres in wet conditions?
  7. Initially, I was going to suggest looking for vacuum leaks then I did a Google search to confirm those thoughts. https://www.google.com/search?q=engine+stalls+only+when+cold&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 http://www.autotap.com/techlibrary/solving_intermittent_stalling_problems.asp Just noticed that one URL mentions the crankshaft position sensor which I have recently replaced on the girlfriend's Yaris after it displayed a Check Engine Light. An other URL is mentioning the coolant sensor.
  8. I recommend that you engage the services of a car broker. They should be able to get you the best possible deal and save you a lot of time and stress.
  9. That is a real bonus feature particularly when the engine has a timing belt. Regular oil changes with a quality oil will address the oil sludge issue. https://www.toyotanation.com/threads/camry-2002-v6-1mz-fe-timing-belt-ever-break-at-what-mileage.808442/page-2
  10. I bought this electric Impact Wrench Rattle Gun for $65 during an eBay Australia Day Sale 2020. Getting lazy, so it is a lot easier than using a wheel brace to undo the wheel nuts especially if they are really tight. It has been getting a real workout in the last few weeks. Only issue is to not trip over the lead or remember to pack it away properly in the first place. Thinking about putting this tool to the test for loosening the retaining 32mm nut on the front drive shaft. Maybe my existing standard 1/2" socket will be suitable, otherwise a trip to Trade Tools for a deep impact socket. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CHECKOUT-10-OFF-UNIMAC-12V-Impact-Wrench-Rattle-Gun-Wheel-Nut-Remover-1-2/142618032122?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
  11. I was having another look at Trade Tools website mainly at the FORCE brand which is currently on sale. I had a closer look at these extra long flat ring sockets and particularly the description which stated " They feature zero degrees offset double-ring ends which are designed to suit areas with limited access or when extra reach is required." https://www.tradetools.com/product-range/hand-tools/spanner-sets/force-6-piece-metric-extra-long-flat-ring-spanner-set?SearchId=25199499&SearchPos=2 https://www.tradetools.com/product-range/hand-tools/socket-sets/force-6-pce-extra-long-flat-ring-spanner-set?SearchId=25199483&SearchPos=1 What also caught my attention was a go-through socket set. https://www.tradetools.com/product-range/hand-tools/socket-sets/renegade-industrial-3-8-32pc-go-through-metric-socket?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIx5-t7t6_6QIVRaSWCh0g9gChEAYYASABEgJgFPD_BwE
  12. There goes the fuel economy for that trip. Also fun to be had when you react quicker than them at the light change then they have to wring the living daylights out of their drive train to get ahead. Loves the cars that are all noise and no go. While they are making attention seeking noise, my Aurion is moving well ahead of them. The fuel economy takes another hit on behalf of the fun team.
  13. Another good laugh from KAA. The sixth sense is actually driving, being situation-ally aware so you can detect the morons ahead or more so coming up from behind. I find it somewhat amusing watching them zig zag between lanes to pass traffic, burn up the extra fuel to get nowhere fast while I am just cruising along for better fuel economy. I regard them as potential panel beater customers so quite willing to see them where I can keep an eye on them for that accident waiting to happen. The unknown Aurion feature is that they are sleeper cars and the drivers behind the wheel are mainly keeping a low profile so the morons get the police attention and the tickets. I much rather be spending my money instead of the involuntary contributions to the Govt coffers. Already done my contributions when I was young and dumb.
  14. I recall a post by another member about using vehicle positioning jacks to initially raise his lowered vehicle so he could then use a trolley jack to further raise the vehicle. I have done a price comparison with SuperCheap and AutoBarn and not tempted, particularly as I have a standard height vehicle. For those that are considering using vehicle positioning jacks, please consider these ones which are very attractively priced {$119] and also come with free shipping. https://www.tradetools.com/renegade-industrial-680kg-300mm-vehicle-positioning-jack .
  15. In a post on a different thread, Tony raised my awareness of a brake fluid tester. Taking his feedback into account, I ended up buying this type of tester on eBay. It arrived in the mail this weekend so I decided to try it out. Ended up not getting any of the results that I was expecting. Turns out that the brake fluid is slightly below the minimum level mark. I was previously thinking that it was the maximum level. I will get the fluid topped up then test later. Tool has already paid for itself in my opinion.
  16. After one of the coils failed on the girlfriend's Yaris, I looked at the spark plugs, immediately re-gapped them, then replaced them ASAP. I found out later on an internet post that too wide spark plug gaps can be a cause of the ignition coil failing. I was intending to check the spark plug gap. Your question reminded me so I christened the new 3/8" socket set. Spark plug was good approx. 1.03mm and the tip colour was brown, normal. Part numbers have changed over the years. I would expect that the ignition coils would have improved with ongoing product development.
  17. Robert, my "want that tool" list is just about complete. Recent tools spending is my Birthday and Xmas presents in advance. Certainly also looking after the girlfriend so she does not feel she is being neglected in favour of the "mechanical girlfriends". Good planning that you are making a list for future purchases. Interesting times continue so be prepared for any opportunity that presents itself. I will be back to focussing upon saving targets while watching out for any big discount, clearance or closing down sales.
  18. Enough moronic behaviour and there will be another outbreak and more lockdowns. Then we can get some more economical driving time on the roads. Getting a bit off topic here but I mentioned to the girlfriend about recent article of higher risk of COVID-19 infection being indoors in an air-conditioning room for more than an hour. Gaming rooms are expected to open late June and the girlfriend surprised me when she said not going until after a few months. A case of wait and see. I have been restocking the pantry ready for another lockdown or a self-isolation. Also happened to have filled the jerrycans prior to COVID-19 so not going to refill until the next petrol price cycle or the one after that.
  19. I have just replaced an original coil on my Dec.2008 Prodigy with 109K on the odometer + occasional weekend idling time for about 2 years. I am assuming that there were original coils in my Oct.2006 Aurion ATX when I bought it with 160K on the odometer then replaced them at approx.195K.
  20. Yes back to normal, sort of cut off this morning by a late lane change for an exit on the local highway. Guess we are all out and about chasing those sales. After my bargain hunting, I had a nap while the girlfriend was still out shopping. She came back and was telling me stories of all the released enthusiasm of shoppers at re-opened stores with discounted sales. The hounds have certainly been released. We are going sale shopping tomorrow. Maybe time for me to go into lockdown in the afternoon for some peace and quiet far from the maddening crowds.
  21. Ideally you want both form [looks] and functionality [performance] better than OEM. Assuming that you have deep pockets, this is what I would select: https://www.autocraze.com.au/store/enkei-katana-sm92-19x8-5-5x114-3-gloss-black-machined-face-wheel-tyre-package.html These are the reasons for that selection: https://enkei.com/engineering/ https://www.jaxtyres.com.au/blog/eight-of-the-hottest-new-performance-tyres-race-the-clock-or-tape-measure-in-five-gruelling-disciplines.-whichcar-finds-out-how-they-rank https://www.wheel-size.com/size/toyota/camry/2020/ Personally, I have deep pockets and short arms, so I stay with OEM wheels and select the best brand name touring tyres with best wet performance within my tight budget.
  22. I was getting a bit angry at the current petrol prices. Getting angry encourages the lead foot and this then impacts the fuel economy with too much hard acceleration. Before having a whine about price gouging by the oil companies, I thought that I would gather the facts to support my line of thinking based upon this past news article. https://thenewdaily.com.au/finance/consumer/2020/04/06/fuel-petrol-gouging-coronavirus/ Following is an acceptable basis for understanding Australian petrol prices. https://www.accc.gov.au/system/files/Fuel facts - Unleaded petrol.pdf I then went looking for a graph on Singapore Mogas 95 (Mogas 95). This is a different graph for crude oil and it demonstrates a quick price recovery. https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/gasoline Overall, now expecting discount unleaded petrol pricing around the $1 mark rather than the previous 80 cent mark. Best to accept current pricing levels and enjoy the driving experience in the current COVID-19 restrictions.
  23. Yes the deals are very tempting. I thought that I was very good by not buying that 142 piece combination set which I have been wanting to have for years. I am re-organising what tools I carry around in the boot. 3/8" RENEGADE set will replace the larger combination 3/8" FORCE socket set. I have spoilt myself and been very indulgent getting these extra sets. It is a "Nice to have" with those torque wrenches and a better quality 1/4" set in my tool collection. Sort of a last spending spree before going into a financial lockdown [for myself]. Still got a low profile jack on the watchlist. Looked at Sydney Tools and this was the only item that interested me [and my wallet] @ $84. https://sydneytools.com.au/product/daytona-dlp1700-1700kg-low-profile-hydraulic-trolley-jack When in SuperCheapAuto, price check was $110 which I am sure has recently increased from <$100. It will take a decent discount to prise my wallet open.
  24. So much so that I went back to Trade Tools and got the 1/4" and 3/8" deals. I was there this morning and purchased a pick up tool, another impact driver and a set of long allen keys. Just to stir the counter staff member, I said that I had noticed that Sydney Tools have moved into their previous premises. Also looked on their website so here I am at Trade Tools for the latest deals.
  25. I overlooked these socket sets because I already have more than sufficient. Last night, I must have been too tired to not to notice the bonus torque wrench.
