HOLDEN's $1 billion baby

Recommended Posts

HOLDEN's $1 billion baby, the VE Commodore, is facing its third recall notice in less than 12 months, this time for a faulty fuel line.

Well holden obviously didn't spend enough.

3 recalls in 12 months, I find that appauling.

Whilst the car really impresses me, that doesn't.

If this had been known earlier, I doubt it would have won the bias wheels car of the year award.

So if you think you were better off with one of Holdens Billion dollar babies, think again!

My 2zz-ge equipped sportivo is quicker than the VE base model, and I actually have more room in the back for sexy time (reclining rear seats)

Toyota win /thread

thats all that needs to be said. if i can enjoy my sexy time more in my rolla over a commodore then holden can jump off a bridge.thread closed. mods what needed to be said has been said so please close thread. haha :whistling:

No suprise here,

Holdenwoo being aussie made and sourced with many daewoo parts share the shyteness altogether, this is good news for Ford though with the upcoming release of the Orion Falcon, so they should learn from holdens failure and capitalise on it. But with a whole new outlook and new Engine perhaps the 3.5ltr duratec engine ? they probably will share the initial fate as holden...

Yes Wheels is a biased magazine as its been influenced by its sponsors.... Holden.

whats annoying is that the holden fanboys love to poke fun at toyota's recalls of recent claiming its the end of toyota's reliability and quality.

bunch of ****ers

That's because for Toyota owners reliability is actually a factor in the choice of car where as the Holden owners know they are getting crap and are not concerned with reliability (it's got a V8 [insert yellow circle with brainless moron look])

More on the ball, its an Aussie icon and people assume its an Aussie car for Aussie people and the fact yes it has an option for a V8 which calls out muscle, many just look upto it no matter what... Give it time when realibility keeps becoming an issue and the market starts turning more to smaller cars/diesel, holden will build its own grave.

In fact it should be in a grave but with the government assistance, korean partnership help, fleet monopolising its a wonder why they still live on

I have have mentined previoulsy, my missus has a VE for a work car. When she first got it I was still driving my old VS wagon around and I thought this new one was excellent, that is until I test drove my SX6. I hate driving it because it has F A power and handles like a boat and looks cheap and nasty on the inside.

I had the same thing with my old mans VX Gen III powered calais. Lots of power in a straight line (to an extent) but it makes it all up top. I prefer acceleration in a road environment rather than being able to continually haul a55 to 200+ km's an hour (which I never do).

The handling and steering in it I loath as well. The Sportivo and the Ford Escort (fully restored) we own would be referred to as the 'nimble, agile ninja cars' to be honest.

The calais? It's the big, doofus, clunky, retarded guy that does well in a straight line, but throws a massive hissy fit and drools everywhere when you turn into a corner.

Hehe still a boat, Its better than the VZ and below series as the 1Billion was also used to refine the suspension and chassis characteristics to be more nimble, but if it still is a boat to control then thats still no good.

Im a big ford fan, but would i own one? Not at the moment. I posed this question to a Ford Salesmen, which in-turn told me that if toyota made a better built car i should go there. I asked "Why in 2007 (it was at that time) in the world of technology and the like does an australian built car still have panels (interior and exterior) that do not align correctly and all the squeeks and rattles to boot? Our build quality is 20 years behind the rest of the world!!!

When you buy an old muscle car, you buy the motor, the body and interior more than likely are going to be redone.

Wait for the new Ford, theres lots of claims saying its all going to be more refined.... but thats only a thing time will tell.

We are pretty decent tho, i wouldnt say 20years off the pace, look at the US, they cars are worse design and all, all those dodge interiors are worse than a arcade machine.

not to mention cars from china/thailand/indonesia etc I would say certain european and a bulk of the japanese make cars better than we do.

The new Falcoon, my not meet up to the standard of the Aurion. But it will be a lot closer than before

All past experiences point that way, but who knows... theres rumours it will be getting the 3.5 duratec engine which outclasses their dinosaur Inline 4.0 and stacks up to the engine in the Aurion as it also makes it to the wards top 10 v6 engines in the world... all I can say is very keen to see what ford comes to the table this time

  • 6 months later...

I go through a car every 10-12 months, in the last 3 years I have had 2 VZ's & 1 VE commodore, 1 BFII Falcon and currently have a Camry. I have resolved NEVER to subject myself to another commodore.

The VE was always playing up, the computer was continually going into fault modes, the dealer service was nothing short of SH.T. It would go to them with problems that were reported before the service so that they had all the parts, then when the service happened the parts were wrong. The car was sold after 10 months (40,000 km) with all the problems and faults not fixed.

I have driven the new FG Ford, and it is a great car, but I will likely replace the Camry with an Aurion mainly because of the fuel efficiency.

I also agree that if it has a Holden badge, then Wheels will give it COTY. What will win this year??? Crumadoor Wagon or maybe the Epica???? It has the required badge

Like PaulE I too go through cars fairly quick, over the last 2 years I've had VZ Calais, 2 VE Calais V's (one was so bad Holden took it back), the replacement was falling apart on delivery. The Presara was sensational and I now have a Kluger....I will never buy a Holden ever again....Toyotas do everything they are built to do.

Interestingly the Holden dealer did comment to me upon one of my many visits, that Holden could "put a Holden badge on a piece of sh*^ and people would buy it"...

When I would complain about the issues with the VE to the service department the standard response usually was "they all do that"....WTF!!!!

Cheers

Ive got a VE SS for work,

Ultimately it has the ability to be a great car, for the money it gives great performance and handling for a standard car,

Its just the minor faults that have spoilt the car

First time i used the wipers the motor burnt out, the replacement motor allows the wipers to hit the A pillar at full speed

(having a wiper motor burn out at 70km/h in heavy rain is pretty dangerous might i add)

Half of the time the indash screen doesnt turn on until about 5 minutes after start up

the spinning audio buttons on the wheel dont work sometimes

The rear suspension set up needed to be replaced as it had a horrible creaking sound from factory

BAD tapping noise in the b pillar has now been fixed..

All up its a good car now with a few issues fixed but even this morning it was playing up, never had an issue with my toyota/honda, its a pity they spent so much on something with so many little issues!

i take magazine reviews with a grain of salt nowadays, they dont seem to look at the real issues behind owning a car

Rolla Boy,

You are obviously still young, you can recall a car twice for a two small items or recall a car once for multiple items or something major. For one of my recall notices from Holden, there was 8 items to be fixed, but the notice only stated one. Like I said I have had many cars(gave up counting at 43) but the worst were always the crumadores. People are easily fooled by HYPE.
