footware and car pedals

Recommended Posts

I was just wonder if it is illegal to wear slip on shoes or drive barefoot because i tend to drive bare footed, and this afternoon my friend said it was illegal. I reckon driving with barefoot for me feels more comfortable and the chances of pedal slipping is less than when i wear shoes.

Usually barefoot, unless it's too much effort to take my shoes off (workboots for example). I'm 6'2" so need every centimetre of leg-room I can get. Never ever drive in thongs (barely wear them anyway), and try to avoid things which have any kind of "lip" around the soles (work-boots have them, and they get caught on the edge of the pedals, but see above).

If I am driving in shoes they tend to either be my work-boots, or the smallest, tightest sneaker-style shoes I can find (Puma Titans used to be my favourite). Although having size 14 feet means even really small shoes are fairly big.

maybe the most awesome low top shoe ever.

I wear shoes pretty much all the time, ocassionally barefooted, never thongs though as someone said above they can get caught.

I wouldn't mind driving barefooted, but I am used to driving with shoes, and the extra bit of cms of the shoe sole, if it wasn't there it changes the friction point of the clutch and it feels weird for me then. lol

There is no law saying you cannot wear either slip on or barefoot, so it is fine to do so. But hopefully common sense prevails.

I always wear shoes when driving. Always have been and probably always will. I wear thongs many times as well. I have never had any issues with it and never had them get stuck while driving. It also gives me more contact area on the pedal as well when I have my heel against the floor. Driving barefoot just seems weird and not quite right because I can actually feel the surface of the pedal. Plus it's too much hassle slipping shoes on and off etc.

Just my preference anyways.

Don't know where you live, but most places in Perth if you try get into a place with thongs in a vicinity where they serve alcohol you get denied for entry.

Reason: Safety reasons. Slipping, stepping on glass shards etc etc.

Clutch is where the thong is annoying if heel on ground and go to depress the clutch thongs can slide / bend and get caught weirdly.....ilove driving barefeet.....can use your monkey toes to do lazy mans heel toe......or should i say big toe / rest of foot :)
