I still want one.

People seem to miss the point of this car, its meant to be lightweight, revvy and handle well.

It's not meant to be the new supra or some super fast machine. Its about the concept 'its more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow'

HEAR HEAR!! Finally someone agrees!!

Totally understand what you guys are saying, but for me I really don't care how fast or slow it is, it's got to look right, and this doesn't to me...

I tried to like it from the beginning but the Subaru part put me off, and the final design just killed it....

If it was ALL Toyota maybe, but now I would take a Genesis Coupe over this.. It hurts to say :(

Concept(ish): http://smh.drive.com.au/photogallery/toyota-ft86-sports-coupe-concept-20110302-1be0q.html?selectedImage=1

Final: http://smh.drive.com.au/photogallery/first-drive-2012-toyota-86-20111128-1o1xl.html?selectedImage=9

And finally, a poll: http://www.smh.com.au/polls/drive/new-japanese-sports-coupes-20111129-1o4gt.html

Even though i knew Subaru was co-developing it, i wasnt aware they were also going to release a car (same body) themselves. This is what ultimately put me off.

Long gone are the days of the Commodore/Lexcen, Astra/Pulsar, Corolla/Nova crossovers... and for good reason.

Shame really.......

I prefer the Orange 86......

The suburu looks ok aswell...

Oh yeah 86 has Potential! look at the size of the damn brakes on this thing!! with the weight of the car it would stop hard on it's nose all day every day probably until it's severed your head right off lol

Yes, but this is not my style. We'll see how photoshop compares to real-world mods. Plus, same size front and rear rotors will never be seen with a good design.

I'll be getting one for my next work car when they're released. 147kw in such a light car will be fine, the base spec GT is ~440kg lighter than an aurion, ~160kg lighter than a ZRE ascent. 12.5:1 compression, 86x86 bore/stroke and a revlimit over 7K is all good. Looks like a lot of fun to drive to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Jr-iYAtpWM&feature=share

All the major tuning houses will have forced induction kits etc available at release or shortly afterwoods, the factory Modellista kit looks decent too. I'm just hoping Toyota/Subaru dont go with US-spec fat-***** seats with no bolsters like the current WRX's/Evo's. Heard mention of an "open" ecu for tuning, I personally have my doubts about that though unless the ECU is subaru based. If it's the typical Denso/Toyota ECU then it will be harder for the aftermarket shops to sort their turbo/supercharger kits seeing how the engine uses 8 injectors (port injection and direct injection).

Maybe the whole point of Toyota 'down-grading' the looks from the concept is for us to be able to modify its cosmetics further so it can actually look better, and also for their facelifts.. It's hard to top the concept IMO. It's so obvious that the concept is much hotter.

Look at Aurion's breakthrough 5-6 years ago, evry1 was like crazy about it, but when the facelift came out, majority of us did not agree that much.

The black vehicle in these pictures is a real modded 86 it's not photoshoped.. It belongs to a tuning house called Japanese parts & performance. As highlighted a few times now many tuning houses have their hands on the vehicle already and are producing a host of performance parts so you can basically buy your 86 out of the dealership and straight to them.

Heaps of new pictures and videos have been released about the new Toyota GT 86; http://www.allcarwiki.com/wiki/Toyota_GT-86

It's shaping up to be an awesome car.

What do you guys think?

Personally, the car looks awesome, but frankly I'm a bit surprised at the low power output I was expecting the Subaru to have an official upper spec with about 200kw. But from what the insiders at Toyota have been saying the car is being designed to be modded. I guess they're setting up the basics and letting the individual owners determine what power the car should be putting out.

Okay the newer pics are slowly growing on me - the interior is outrageous which is to be expected of a car like this. If the tuning houses can get some decent power out of these then they might be seriously considered when I come to upgrade my car in a few years

I seriously hope they can bring this for under $30,000AUD.

If that happens, I would give a LOT of thought to purchasing one...

lol under 30k won't happen. thats Corolla coin. starting prices no doubt will be 39,990. still pretty cheap though!

If the aussie car market wasn't such a rip off, we'd hopefully see prices similar to the US and UK markets. i.e. upper 20k or around 30k. Probably won't happen though, we get gouged.

I doubt they'll sell many at $40K, not cheap enough compared to the AWD turbo subaru platforms, wouldn't suprise me given toyota's history with AUS pricing v's the rest of the world. Even Subaru has commented that they're unsure if they'll bring the BZR to Aus as it isn't worthwhile competing with the same car from toyota in the low 30's.

The 86 / BRZ has the rear brake calipers mounted behind the rear axle centreline (your attachment shows them front mounted on both axles):

Toyota-GT_86_2013_photo_07.jpg

The shadows through the wheels make no sense in their surroundings.

The shadows and reflections are identical front and rear.

No GOOD brake design has identically sized front an rear brake rotors (unless running a racing brake pedal with a bias bar). When braking, the front brakes will do the majority of work. If one end is not working at the same capacity, you're wasting horsepower.

I'm sure the exact look is achievable, with this being a mockup.

^ Oh snap.

No snap intended ... I'm just on of those fussy engineer types.

damn the Scion version looks a little pov with out the spoiler and the lower spec interior. wonder what price they will go for in the US/Canada.
