Hi All,

I woke up this morning to a pool of coolant this morning, there was no signs of any leaks in the past.

Got it towed to my mechanic and his told me its the water pump.

How can a water pump just break without any notice?? Have anyone else experience similar problems as me ? is this a common fault for aurions?

Surely they cant be that much of a Pr*ck to replace

Tow the car into my mechanic this morning and the car was fixed by 2pm and only $600 with genuine Toyota water pump. I'm extremely grateful as he not only done it so quickly but also fixing it at such a reasonable price especially after reading what others are charging.

Not sure if I the post his contact here? But highly recommended if anyone have the same issues with their car.

I was quoted $1000 to replace it. I was told by Toyota that the engine must be taken out to reach the water pump.

No need, there is a service door behind the right hand side wheel guard and unbolt one of the engine mount should give you room to access water pump.

Thanks John1982.

I just wanted to say that I love John's photo, it has a good crime-scene look to it, who shot the Aurion?

Glad to hear that the water pump change can be done relatively easily, I may have to brace myself to tackle it soon depending on what that little black thing floating in the coolant tank of mine is.

Just an update. I had the water pump replaced with a genuine Toyota water pump by a local mechanic at a cost of only $495.

It's a bit upsetting hearing this.

Does anyone know when they let go?

My Prodigy has 187000 on it and I'd like the chance to save a bit before it goes.

$495 doesn't sound to bad for it.

Engine out that's a load of BS

Haha yes I too love this pic for the crime seen effect it has

Anyone in the Brisbane area found a mechanic to replace a water pump at a reasonable price?

I found a video on YouTube using the service door:

My aurion has just done 100,000ks, always been serviced by Toyota, warranty ended December 2016. Now the water pump has failed as well as the tensioner thingo. Got a quote from Toyota dealer for $2,000. I have requested an out of warranty claim be submitted by the dealer. See how we go. Then probably through consumer law channels.

Seems as though there is an issue with water pumps in these engines.

2k to do this job is a rip off. Pure and simple.

If others are doing it for 1/4 of that then you have to wonder.

I understand it's a fiddly process and would gladly pay someone to do it for me, but not 2k. Now Way !

Another point worth mentioning would be to have the serpentine belt and tensioners replaced too as this has to be removed anyway. Especially those higher mileage 40 series cars.

Also, for the Toyota dealer who said the engine has to come out needs his head read. Seriously.

It's bleeding to death . . . . I've never seen a water pump do that.

My 2006 Aurion with 86,000 Kilometres on the clock, finally the Water Pump Sh*t itself today, cost to replace from Toyota was quoted at $750.00.
Hope to have back to 2 day's time.

That's not unusual from Toyota.

I had it done for $495, but then it was in 2015. It took one afternoon..

Yeah, welcome to the club 🙂 I was $600 out of pocket for this at an independent when it happened, so $750 at Toyota isn't that much of a rip-off. While it's belly up get them to do the VVT oil line, it's a recall item and should be free of charge if your car is still running on the original rubber crap.

I wonder how many are left not having had it done yet..

I wonder if Toyota will just oblige and just do it or does the customer need to "remind or request" it ??

I've never actually looked for the VVT oil line. i have no idea where it is funny enough..

Started the Aurion this morning and heard a grinding noise similar to this YouTube video.

Bad Water Pump Bearing Noise - Bing video

Investigated and loosened the serpentine belt tensioner hoping that it was one of the idler pulleys rather than the water pump. There was movement on the water pump pulley so the bearing is on the way out. Odometer reading is 226,005kms. Ordered a replacement water pump and gasket on eBay so hopefully will arrive by next Friday.

Not exactly happy as planned road trip will have to be deferred plus not a straight forward task. In hindsight, I should have had the part on hand.

Actual odometer reading is is 226,005 kms and Aurion build date is October 2006.

Highly confident that there was no bearing noise last weekend.

I am assuming that it is the original water pump so should have a better idea when it is removed.

In the meantime, keeping any driving to a bare minimum. Currently, there is no leakage but I have put a 5 litre container of distilled water into the boot as more of a "security blanket" measure.

On a positive note, I am waiting to see whether the engine is quieter in comparison to earlier weeks/months after the water pump has been replaced.

Definitely a bit of work...I feel like I made the right choice paying 2 hours labour to get mine replaced 😄

Probably worth changing the belt while you're in there if you plan to keep it for a while longer.

You definitely made the right choice especially only having to pay for 2 hours labour.

I will certainly be taking more than 2 hours to get this job done. The serpentine belt should be in good condition and not need to be replaced. I will probably give it another treatment with Aerospace 303 Protectorant.

I have previously lubricated 2 of the idler pulleys so planning upon checking them all. Definitely planning upon lubricating the pulley from the idler tensioner.

Hey Ashley, Sorry to hear this mate. It's a very unsettling noise that's for sure. I hope it all goes smoothly.

Also be interested to know if it is in fact still the original pump.

All the best
