Love the Aurion, DK

If I were up for a sedan, I would be looking for a TRD.

the 1/4 mile time is getting up there, too.

I'll let you know what I get next month and we can compare notes.

i personally think that your hilux would smash our aurion's in a 1/4mile race...

ive seen the toyota guys race the hilux vs the aurion in a straight line and the hilux wins...

then add in the fact that you've done some serious mods to yours, you should win hands down...

seriously jealous of the level of mods you've done on your hilux man!! :lol:

+1 +1 on this statement. You TRD Lux there Jap would bet a wicked quick time for the vehicle it is. That extra 2 wheels of traction makes a huge difference to your launch which will yield you a good time. Myxalplyx in the States got a 13.9s @ 98.87mph in a N/A 2GR-FE RAV4. That's already faster than what a normal Aurion can do, and pretty close to a TRD Aurion. He says his is modified in terms of a muffler change and intake, but I personally have doubts that these are the reason for his sub-14 figure. He has dyno figures showing gains, but when it comes to dyno's, they aren't always correct. Especially when it is by a company called Dynojet*.

Sorry to change the subject but I was just driving home side by side with your twin and couldnt take my eyes off those wheels.I've never noticed how fat they look on the move especially at night under HID's...plus it was super clean.....

Do you know off hand the offset and are they only in 19" for both models Daryl ?

I guess I am yet to see what it looks like. I've always wondered that when they are rolling if you can see the brakes through them.

Do you know off hand the offset and are they only in 19" for both models Daryl ?

Yep, they are 19's on both the S and the SL. They are an 8 inch wide wheel with a +46.5mm offset. They are close to sitting flush, but just enough clearance so they don't kick up too much road grime onto the side of the car :lol:

Yep brakes are visible,they really do look good rolling.. Thats how i choose my wheels,need to see them rolling first ;)

Seriously though, it's time for an update... even if it's nothing much.

Being a State of Origin evening, I thought about heading to Willowbank again to take advantage of a potentially quiet night. I was a bit half-and-half on this because last SoO evening I rocked up to at Willowbank, it was quite packed with others thinking the same thing. This evening though was quiet luckily.

I rocked up around 6:45pm expecting there to be quite a few people around. When I got to the staging lanes, there was only like 3 people waiting. I had to LOL at that time. All up there were around 25 people there racing, but since half of them were waiting to cool down after runs etc, it was always a clear run from end of track back to the beginning again.

Anyways, enough of that story... I just feel like writing because I need to wear myself down so I can get to sleep. This time around, I removed my sub to get that bit of extra weight out of the way, but I was also running with more fuel, so removing the sub didn't take off as much weight as it usually would.

I also did a wheel rotation putting my nice meaty Yoko S.Drives to the front, and my crappy worn Dunlop Sport Maxx's to the rear. I was waiting till the night before the drive to the National Meet to swap the tires around since these Yoko's cost me quite a bit and I wanted to save them, but with this opportunity to potentially get some decent runs, I had to make a compromise.

So... now to the point of this post. In the span of 1.5 hours, I managed to fit in 7 runs. The first three were one after another and I quickly learned that heat soak with a lack of intercooler really affects this car down the 1/4. I guess it's since the engine is pushed hard for the length of track, then there isn't sufficient driving to cool off the excess heat generated. After that, I made sure to let things cool for at least 15-20 minutes before going for a run again. This resulted in similar times. So lesson learnt is that for the 1/4 mile, this car doesn't like consecutive runs.

Last time I went to the drags, I managed:

13.827s @ 101.31mph

Tonight armed with a little more traction, I managed:

13.748s @ 101.91mph

I'm a little more impressed, but still feel like are better times to get. That said, I really am considering just letting this one go now. It's starting to become too much effort for me to head to the drags. I think all that's left for me to do is to head to QR now.

very nice effort. With cooler winter weather and a bit of weight saving I'm sure you'd get that time down further - but I can't imagine that being too appealing unless you plan on adding some power mods to the vehicle? Getting into the 12s should be possible with some well planned mods and tyre/suspension setups.

Real shame the TRD supercharger doesn't lend itself to an easy boost increase by pulley change or water/air intercooling.

Oh damn. Long story short, some guy in a van decides to reverse back to overtake the bus he was stuck behind (dropping off/picking up passengers), I was unfortunately right behind him and he failed to see me. His tow bar/ball went right into my bumper. The time it took for me to react, the car didn't engage into reverse quick enough.

At least it was lucky that I was in neutral at the time of impact with my foot off the brakes. I guess the damage isn't much, but damage is damage. Plus sorting it out is going to be an epic pain in the a**. If I pursue it with insurance, I will be dropping it off for assessment and repair on the 15th of June (could have dropped it off earlier, but the meet is awfully close), and I can end up without it for a week.

Alternatively, I could seek one of those bumper repair guys that come to you and fix it up in a few hours. This would result in minimal downtime, but will end up in me paying for it.

Damn Daryl! That's not cool at all. :( So close to the meet too, what a b*tch. I guess it coulda been worse but still. Sorry to hear that. :(

I know. If there was a way to guarantee that AAMi could repair it by Thursday, I'd be dropping it off tomorrow. But they said that once I drop it off, I won't be getting it back till the repair is complete. This is why I said I'll take it in on the 15th. I will just have to do what I can to make it look good for the meet. I managed to run back onto the road and recover the plastic plate that covers it. It had a busted clip which I am now waiting for the plastic weld to set, and it's a little scratched which I will touch up.

So at least for the meet I can get it looking better, but it's just not the same as having no damage at all. That was some seriously bad timing. I was only on my way to get some oil for my car so I can do the oil change. Damn I wish I had gotten it earlier.

Oh wow that is super nice. I love that Effect with the lighting. Is it just me or does your front tyre look like it could do with some air?

Thanks mate. It probably could have done with some more air at the time, but it should all be sorted now. Plus I think part of that look was caused by the camber the Aurion gets when the wheels are turned. You seem to get more of it on the Aurion compared with other cars.

Yeah thats probably it, the camber. Some Cars do have crazy Camber on full lock and stuff. Like VX Commodores and the like. I need to be told how you do that effect in the photos. It makes your awesome car look amazing.

Credit goes to Michael (51DER) on the boards here for taking those photos.

In it's basic form, it's just light painting with an open shutter. I think the combination of the LED light he uses as well as his camera settings, together with his personal touch is how they end up that way. I wish I could take photos like that.

Are those stress line on the darker silvery part?

Silver is meant to be one of the worst colours for panel beaters to do spot repairs.

Oh man, that totally sucks! IF they have to repaint it make sure its a good panel beater. On plastic bits, its harder to make it look like original quality finish because it might not be as shiny.

looks like it was a bad weekend for the TRD boys in brissie this weekend... :(

hopefully you get it fixed with minimal fuss... :)

meanwhile, LOL at two TRD's getting damaged and making claims on the same weekend with AAMI... what are the chances? hahaha

Yeah, sorry to hear about that Ash. But yeah, Of the 612 or so TRD's in existence, 2 of them making claims within the same span of time is a bit of a funny concurrence.

I just want to get it all sorted ASAP, which would be easy in most cases, but with the meet coming up it means I will have to wait till next week to get fixed.

It just sucks having to drive it with a scar like that especially with the meet coming up at the end of the week.

... and having the lower mesh pushed in by the other guy is a bit of a disappointment :ph34r:
